Now that the new road from Samana to Santo Domingo is open is there a faster route from Santiago to Samana connecting to this road?

if you are trying to get to Samana just go north and drive along the north coast. You will eventually get to the beginning of the new road/highway on the north end close to Nagua. from there you can shoot down to Santo Domingo if you want.
Santiago to Samana, go north to Puerto Plata, then East on the highway towards Samana. I have heard of another road that goes from Santiago to Gaspar Hernandez....not sure if it's highway or just backroads but i guess that can put you further east on the north coast if thats what you are looking to do?

Take Route 14 East from Santiago towards Licey to Moca, go North on 21 out of Moca all the way to Sabaneta. Then East on 5 to Nagua and Samana.

21 is decent road, not a highway, but your most direct route.

If you are adventurous you can take 132 out of Moca through Salcedo, San Francisco, to Nagua.

No reason to go to Puerto Plata!

Sorry, the quickest way to Saman? (from Santiago that is) is down Duarte Hwy to the turn off for San Francisco de Macoris, through SFM to Nagua-> Sanchez->Saman?

Much more direct and generally speaking good roads...

Quicker by 20-30 minutes, yes, but not nearly as enjoyable a ride.

IF I was on a nice bike with a bunch of good buddies and some cold brews at the end of the trail, I "might" take the Jamao road...But you would still have to deal with those d@mn potholes hiding in the shadows, and I don't like that...

the OP said "quickest", not prettiest....
