They not only have operational radar, but they know how to operate it. By that I mean they keep it off until they point it at a car. I have a radar detector and always follow someone going at the speed I like. When they point it at him I hear my detector and hit the brake. I have been doing that in the US for as long as I remember, and it never fails me.

Whether the radar is operational matters not...

They
think it is and that is the thing to remember

I'll stand corrected. Wikipedia is not perfect but it has a pretty good track-record for errors, about the same as that of the Encyclopedia Brittanica I understand. But on the ground then in 1985, there was one hotel on the beach: Hotel Bavaro Beach and if there was an airport nearby we were certainly not made aware of it. In fact people remarked on the lack of air traffic--nice and peaceful someone said around about Wednesday.

Just backing up what I already knew - in this case would not take Wikipedia as set in stone either. My husband flew in on a press jolly to the old Punta Cana Club Hotel in the late 70s/early 80s. The Club Med was already up and running too and the airport was just an unpaved airstrip.

The place has changed too much from when I first came 16 years ago and the prices are a lot higher of course.
I'm in PC now at Majestic Elegance. Put this on the don't bother list of AI resorts.

Last time I was here was at Ocean Blue - better food, beach pools and service but it was booked these dates.

He must mean the toll. Sounds about right for the time he said. From the toll I make it to PC in under 1:45, but I drive fast.
that's what i do it in from the toll after you past Boca Chica construction its clear sailing, petal to the metal

Well it took me over 5 hours at 120 kmh. And count on 1200 in tolls each way

That sounds about right. I only drove it once. Over 5 hours down. Over six hours back because I missed getting off at the exit for the toll road heading north. Had to go a long way before I found a way to turn around.

Well if your a single man you can stop in Boca Chica for "refreshments" - if you dare but the selection has degenerated almost as much as the butt-fuglies in Sosua
