I think that was always one of his arguments(?). Are you sure he renounced his US citizenship?
His argument since he started many years ago was that the law regarding citizenship didn’t applied to him given what several Dominican lawyers told him due to his special situation.

The stalling his participation is new since now he does comply with the rule given the passage of time, but still is getting stumbling blocks.

As I said before, all of this will simply create more resentments not only with him, but many of his followers. It’s better to simply let things flow instead of creating stumbling blocks. All they do is delay what will happen. It isn’t quite the same to reach power without an axe to grind than to reach power with one. Reaching power will happen either way.

Even if he was to say the current stumbling blocks don’t both him, everyone know he is simply being polite. Stumbling blocks always come from a very small group of people, not from the majority and they are done when they don’t trust the loyalty of the majority when they have the option to choose who they support. If it was clear most wouldn’t support him, it would align with what the small group in power that don’t want him in power. In that case, just let it flow and the results are as wanted.
