Hi Everyone..

It's been a while since anyone has talked about the best long distance plans from Canada to the Dominican Republic. My husband calls his family all the time with the "Minute Pass" phone card.

About 40 minutes for $5.00 to a cell phone
About 65 minutes for $5.00 to a regular line.

However, that being said when we can't get our hands on a phone card my husband calls from our regular service which is 24 cents a minute. (too expensive) Does anyone know of another service we can use by dialing a direct number when we don't have any cards available without changing our service provider?

Thanks
Sandy

I know we play 17 cents per minute with Bell direct. Yris use the Good Call card here in Belleville. She gets around 60 min for $2.50.

to quote Lexi, I also this card from best buy. I have only seen it in $ 10 cards, but it works out to 5 cents a minute which is cheaper than 13 cents a minute from my shaw home phone. I used to use world calling cards from 7-11 but they no longer carry them sigh * they worked out to less than 4 cents a minute.:cheeky:

You can try PINGO if you can't get your hands on a physical card, rates are .063 to a Dominican land line, and .10 to a cellular, from Canada.

Sangria;

I am in Ontario. We live North of Toronto. Phone cards sometimes are hard to get because of the small community we live in. I am hoping to find another company that we can use if the phone cards are not available.

I see some other options now...which hopefully will help others out there and me save a few dollars! thanks everyone!!

you can also buy the cards online too by credit card if you feel comfortable with that

I use MaXimum Caribbean (most variety stores sell it). A $2.50 calling card usually last 25 mins to a cell phone and approx. 190 mins to a land line. A $5.00 calling card usually gives me 58 minutes to a cell phone. Hope this helps as it is the best card that I have found and use it daily.

When I don't have calling cards on hand I use Yak, Yak which is automatically charged to your home line. Number is 10-15-945 followed by the number you are calling in the DR.
I believe this works out to be around .10 -.11c/mth

I use 10-10-710. Just dial this number then the number in the DR, it is 8 minutes for $1. If you go over the 8 minutes they get you good though. Just hang up and dial again.

It is a lot easier than going out looking for phone cards or signing up for plans.

10-10-100

The above works well in the GTA. Usually I can get thru using 10-10-100 where as I have consistant trouble with using bell direct. 10-10-100 is 17 cents to a cell .....not sure about to a land line. Works for me!
