Scoff if you will, but also remember that I am the woman who made amoebas funny.

I really do not have the space for one. I keep looking around to see how it might work: bathroom is too small and the kitchen is getting crowded. I might be able to use this sort of anteroom but it's far from the water supply.

balcony? galeria? many dominicans store the washing machine wherever possible and take it outside when they use it. local stores even sell neat covers for washing machines so they do not stand out among furniture. get a hose to supply water and voila. barrio laundry solution.

No such thing as lavanderia at most houses, outside with a garden hose or cubetas to fill the thing in with, ah, the Dominican way!

Sosua it is Meems? I'll drive mine over manana, inside the van, not balanced on the back of a bike. five hundred pesos should cover fuel. OK?

$500 pesos to cover fuel?

Wow, you must get really bad MPG/KPG!

I drive the whole week (100+ miles / 160+ kilometers) for less then $700 pesos.

I'll have to have my designer/space consultant/organizer take another look.

I'll have to have my designer/space consultant/organizer take another look.

I used to have one on a base with wheels and would roll it out to the washroom when I needed it. Beats using a washing machine god knows who used to wash god knows what...

semi auto is a giant exaggeration. They are not good machines and do a poor job. If you want the laundry well done you will need a real washing machine.

I used to live in a tiny studio.... When doing the laundry, I would take my little 6000 pesos washing machine outside, fill it with the hose, wash my clothes and when finished, bring the machine back inside my tiny studio, in a corner near the cat litter...

Today I have a lot of space but still do my laundry outside... Because I'm really messy when I take the clothes out to put in the rince bucket and back for a spin before hanging my clothes on the clothes lines....

Sometimes life is simpler and sometimes it gets complicated to do laundry in the DR.... You need (in my case) a combination of elements, all at the same time... Power, water, sun and time.... There's times where I go as long as 1 month "sin" doing laundry because I'm short of 1 of these elements... Thank God I don't work outside the house, no need for a ton of clothes....

Good luck in your search for the perfect solution....

What did you do to make amoebas funny. I laughed the first time i saw under a microscope fifty years ago.
Der Fish

I blogged about it, in one of the earlier "And Now A Few Words from Meemselle" in the North Coast forum. Hysterically amusing.
