Yesterday I got an e-mail from DGM that my on-line submission was accepted (2 weeks wait).

La solicitud ha sido enviada. Envíe los documentos originales.

I duly printed out the on-line notification, from the DGM web site, "mi página", applicaciones and today took that notification letter and my papers to Santiago Migracion.

In 3-4 business days I should see a notice on the web site to go to Santiago office and make the payment.

With all the paper work being done before hand, I hope that means just the trip to SD to get the residencia card printed. (Short wait?)

UPDATE

Well, the 3-4 business days turned into 6 business days, I got my notice to pay today.

$20,000 pesos, paid at the Migracion in Santiago.

They also gave me my appointment date to go to Santo Domingo.
The appointment date is just over 2 weeks away.

Which is good as my cedula expires before that (Actually 10 days after my Residencia Card).

I don´t know if they have changed anything, but in the past, one could not re-new the cedula prior to it's expiration date (Another Dominican oddity***)

*** Like the other day at McDonald´s, I ordered a burger and told them, no ketchup, so they put on mayonnaise instead.

(The particular burger I ordered does not normally come with mayonnaise)

PS:

Make sure you print out the payment notice and take it to Migracion to pay.

"Words of Wisdom"

Make copies of all official government permits, licenses, residency cards, etc.
It could be important years from now to prove how long you have had them.

A few years ago, Migracion lost many files.
It has come back to bite a DR1 member in their attempt to get the definitiva card.

Make copies before turning in your old cards.

UPDATE

Got my new 10 year Residencia Definitiva card and 10 year Cedula card today.

Left Santiago on 5:30am Metro bus.
Arrived at migracion at 8:20 am.
Took 2 hours and 20 minutes to get the card.
Got excellent treatment at JCE in Santo Domingo.
Arrived back at Metro 12 minutes before the 12 noon bus departure.

Total time: Santiago Bus depot round trip - 9 hours.

Government Charges:

Police Report: (I think it was $600 pesos at BanReservas).
10 Year Residencia Definitiva Card: $20,000 pesos.
10 Year Cedula Card: $10,000 pesos.

Total: $30,600 pesos.

Paid in Santiago for the Residencia Definitiva card.
No medical required.
Did not pay for VIP.

NOTE:

Submitted my papers in Santiago and they gave me a receipt showing what I had submitted.
It's important to take THAT receipt (Acuse de Recibo) along with your payment receipt to Santo Dominigo.

Play it safe: Take copies of EVERYTHING with you.

Good for you SDR. Amazing that they cannot do this for you at the office in Santiago any more, but it is what it is. (Remember we met you and WayToGo there when you could? )

Congratulations, SantiagoDR. I was surprised to see that it is only RD$30,600 for the definitiva and 10-year cedula compared to the 24,100 I paid for the four-year renewal. Definitely worth the difference!

Yep, I picked up my Residencia card in Santiago.
That's why my Cedula card expired 10 days after the Residencia card.
It was a half-baked solution, still had to make the trip to Santo Domingo for the Cedula card :chinese: lol

I wish to give a SPECIAL thanks to KateP.

Her thread, posts and PM's were extremely helpful in getting my Residencia Definitiva.

Congratulations on getting this. The process can make one quite anxious, as you very well know.

Well, back to this saga. I deposited my letter in Puerto Plata to apply for Residencia Definativa just over two months ago and was told that it should take a month to get a reply. They also told me that all looked in order on the computer. Well, I was away for a month and on checking the status on my return, they still have no reply. After a lot of phone calls, they told me to call Santo Domingo, but you get an answer machine and have to enter your password/PIN from your application, to go ahead in the system. I don't have those as I am still waiting for permission to apply. Catch 22. They have told me to call back to PP on Wednesday, but I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing these delays at present. They told me they are short staffed and have a lot of applications. They also told me that if my application is late, I will have to pay the penalties even though I started the process in more than good time. Oh joy and we are only just beginning.

Hi Linda!
Maybe the password/PIN is the case number you got on the https://personal.migracion.gob.do/ website when you started the process (that number gets used throughout the hole process...). You find it under Mi Pagina, Aplicaciones...

The problem is I haven't started the process yet, as I have to wait to get the letter agreeing that I can apply for the definativa. That is the crazy making part lol. But thanks for the suggestion, they are all much appreciated.

After my Residency Definitiva request was denied in September, I am still dealing with the idiots that work for Migracion because of that data loss. At this point I may have anothre residency card and cedula in January or February of next year based on what I was just told yesterday while talking to the monkeys in a cage in Migracion. At least two more trips to Santo Domingo are necessary because of their errors. The Puerto Plata office is totally clueless, told me incorrect things to do so I will not deal with those incompetent people again.

I'm sorry you have more setbacks. Yes, I'm beginning to wonder if I should have bitten the bullet and gone direct to SD, as it may have been quicker and more reliable in the long run :-( Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I sent in the letter to request "Residencia Definitiva" on March 26th 2018.

One day short of two months Immigracion called and said the authorization letter had arrived (May 25th 2018).

Funny thing is, I was there in the morning asking about it and they had not received it.
It must have came in the day's dispatch from Santo Domingo.
They called me in the afternoon.

I will go back to Immigracion in Santiago on Monday to pick it up.
I am assuming it was approved, since they told me two months ago that I qualified.

Tomorrow marks exactly 45 days before expiration of my current residency card.
We are allowed to file for renewal 45 days in advance of expiration.

How's that for perfect timing?

Note: The request was filed at the Santiago office of Immigracion, I did not have to go to Santo Domingo.

Ah so yours took nearly two months, that's good to know. I'm over that now and was losing hope but this is encouraging.

I hope you are not another victim of the "data loss". SantiagoDR and I became residents about the same time, but he had no issues with renewing recently and opted for the 10 year Definitiva as he mentioned. After finding out I had a problem, I found out that many people are in the same "data loss" situation that I am in. The last lawyer I talked to who translated my birth certificate and notarized it told me it was the loss of a hard disk that was not backed up that is causing this problem for many including me. I directly asked what the problem was and all they would tell me is that "information was missing" and I had to do what they said. That is why they stand behind bullet proof glass.

So do I. I didn't realize that was the cause of your problems, I thought you were part of the fraud some years back where people received fake cards and the employees pocketed the money. Either way, caught between a rock and a hard place. No impunidad!

I have been getting residency cards since 2003, as I planned my move to the DR, until 4 years ago. The first card was for one year of temporary residency, the next was for 2 years of permanent residency and the remaining 3 cards were 4 year permanent residency cards for a total of 15 years of no issues. I found out about my problem when I recently requested the renewal for what is a 10 year Definitava residency card and was denied and told about what I would have to do. The directions given to me in Puerto Plata were incomplete and incorrect. So I have already made multiple trips to Santo Domingo with at least a few more to come while I wait about 4 more months to finally get a new residency card which will be a one year temporary card and then I can renew for a Definitava 10 year card, or a 4 year Permanent card.

I suppose the Migracion Mafia could have perpetrated the fraud and just issued fake cards while having their mafia friends at the JCE issue fake cedulas as well for each new residency card, but I suspect that the many people who are in the same boat as me are here because of incompetence which caused the data loss from computers that were not properly backed up.

As I discussed my situation with various lawyers on the north coast including one who is a Sosua councilwoman that deals with Migracion and Residency issues for Expats, there are many people who were screwed by this. Hopefully you will not need to go through this special type of "regularization".
