The Ministry of Tourism issued Resolution DJ-007/2021 with special regulations for the industry during the Easter Week, the peak time for domestic tourism. The Ministry says that hotels are reporting 70% occupancy and is concerned this could result in a spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Most Dominican hotels have reopened, and several that had been closed are reopening for the Easter holiday to cater to the increased demand. The Ministry orders a maximum occupancy of 80%. The Resolution applies to tourism businesses and beaches from 1 April to 5 April at 7am. To date, resorts have operated under special protocols that enable restaurants to stay open beyond the general curfew hours. The Resolution seeks to restrict agglomerations for the Easter Week to reduce the risk of crowds at the hotels spreading Covid-19.

The Ministry orders the hotels to comply with...

So are they seriously saying that the AI's are not allowed to dispense any alcohol between Thursday and Monday? I'm reading it that way (see below). Imagine the lines at Guest Relations of unhappy guests asking for a refund.

With the infection rate caused by the more contagious variants skyrocketing. Coming into contact with anyone on a resort that has been exposed to anyone else within the general population is a very big risk. All of the thermometers and hand sanitizer in the country is going to do no good at all. While it can be more or less understood that the early on the thinking that CV19 didn't kill most relatively healthy adults, these variant strains are shattering that mold. More and more younger and healthier people need hospitalization now and one's chance of being killed by a variant virus is up by as much as 60%. People the world over have to get serious about staying away from others and going to a resort to soak at the pool bar with other mask-less people is not the way to do it. If people won't do this themselves, then Govts will do it for them with more restrictive rules. Vaccines are a longer term solution and offer no quick benefit to anyone. Fully vaccinated people may not succumb to this disease in large numbers but they can still catch it and pass it on to others who may not be so fortunate. It's illogical to stumble around with a mask just covering your chin, or hanging in groups of people you do not know well. I had to ask several people recently to put the mask they were carrying in their hand on their face if the insisted on being near me. Ever notice that when talking to someone, if you take a step or two backwards to gain some distance, the other person inevitably takes a step or two closer? Sitting in a bar, restaurant or going to a resort with countless strangers and servers is not going to end this pandemic. Time, vaccines, and distance between people might eventually. Just watch the infection numbers explode upwards two weeks after Easter weekend in this country. The party atmosphere in anticipation of next weekend is already tangible here among the locals who are already making plans to socialize in largish groups and family gatherings both at resorts and in the home. Have you noticed that drinkers under the influence tend to spray more when they speak? You can go to a resort and remain relatively safe with the help of the resort and spending most of your time by yourself. Otherwise the gathering of all those people at meals and bars and common areas is just a big risk. Unfortunately the consequences can be more serious now than a year ago when all this started. Get vaccinated and stay healthy for the six weeks needed for the vaccine to fully kick in - 1st shot, four weeks until 2nd shot then two more weeks. These days, "you reap what you sow" is more on point than usual.

Pontificate: to express one's opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic.

While restaurants will be open on Cabarete beach, they cannot serve any alcohol over the Easter weekend and no swimming will be allowed in Cabarete.

No swimming in Cabarete... where is this stated? If so, it will be fun to see how that works out

Playa Cabarete is on the list of open beaches. A couple of beaches in the area are closed (Ocean village and La Hilera) but Playa Cabarete is on the list of open beaches along with Sosua Beach

There will be no swimming allowed in Cabarete. Please see the post above regarding the Mayor of Cabarete.

Those poor guys who own the restaurants and discos on the beach. The one weekend they are guaranteed to make some money now ruined for them. I heard a guy from the WHO saying there had not been a single case reported worldwide of someone catching Covid on a beach. So all this is basically for no scientific reason.

Not any accurate information on this, but why do you think that is? Might it be because they actually don't ask people "where did you contract covid?" Perhaps for the most obvious reason, there is literally no way of knowing with certainty from where you got this disease, as you can literally have been isolated in your home for the past year and just because you have a neighbor that had it and you walk past him/her you can get infected. I sincerely doubt that not a single one everyone in the entire world that got sick had actually contracted it from being around people, let's say on a beach. Nevertheless it's still kind of pointless with restrictions. If people want to party and contract covid and then continue spreading it to others like for example family members, be my guest. I for one still only go out unless necessary, as I actually care about my health and that of loved ones, and frankly is still kind of sick of this whole restriction thing as it still affects in other areas. Just to name one. One time the gas went out like at 6:45 pm and the curfew at that time started at 7, and I almost missed the opportunity to go and fill up that tank before they closed because of the curfew.

In the UK the experts have constantly said that it is very difficult to contract Covid outside. The only circumstances would be if you were at an outdoor market or a gig for example where a lot of people are very close. Personally I think that's a key reason that the DR has come through this pandemic so well, people spend a lot of time outdoors or in very well ventilated rooms.

Most people I know have two tanks, when one gets empty they switch to the other.
I average 60+ days per tank, plenty of time to fill the newly empty one.

Perhaps get even a small second tank to carry you over when the large one is empty.
Be prepared!

For Easter, on DR1, we recognize annually with a death toll prediction that this is the most sacred of weekends for drunken debauchery, high traffic deaths and drownings, along with the occasional tumble from a balcony.

Add that to the fear of CV19 and you will see why alcohol is banned and swimming prohibited.
