You could say i have a big appetite...well, not really. I go to Samurai's every time i'm in Santo Domingo. You could say that i like raw fish. well, you could also say that i like anything that smells like raw fish, looks like raw fish, or tastes like raw fish. In fact, you could say i'm a raw fish connoisseur. Oh yeah, while we're on the subject of raw fish...i'm also a connoisseur of everything chocolate. you could say that i live for chocolate...especially Belgium dark chocolate...bring me some, Belgiank!

Please name the dish and what it is made of for each dish. Some of us can't afford to wander all over the country.

Fair enough. If whoever is the moderator on this particular site & thread allows me, i will go back and name each dish and which restaurant it came from. In fact, i will be more than happy to do it.

Nice pics, but I tent NOT to eat in restaurants with those fancy plates... I have found out that I tend walk out HUNGRY out of those fancy places and have to go eat again to some "not so fancy place" to stuff myself ... but great pics.

I can bring you half of a big bar of 87% cacao dark chocolate from one of the most famous brands in Belgium, but it will cost you at least a beer or 2!!!

PS: I did not chew the bar, I broke pieces of it... just so you know!

El Mes?n de la Cava Review

"At first we thought this was a gimmicky club -- you descend a perilous iron stairway into an actual cave with stalactites and stalagmites -- but the cuisine is among the finest in the capital. The quality ingredients are well prepared and harmonious in flavor. Recorded merengue, Latin jazz, blues, and salsa give the place a festive ambience. Try small shrimp saut?ed in a delicate sauce of garlic or white wine, perhaps a mixed seafood or "sexy" conch gratin?. The gazpacho is also an excellent beginning, as is the bubbling sopa de pescado (red snapper chowder). Follow it up with the grilled Caribbean rock lobster or the double French lamb chops, which are done to tender perfection."

This restaurant is a landmark here in Santo Domingo. Granted some people do not like the food, but others love it. it's a hit or miss with the food, however, the inside of the restaurant is an absolute must to see for anyone visiting santo domingo and wants to see something out of the ordinary. have a beer at the bar downstairs in the cave...that's worth the price of admission in and of itself. Here is the website of El Meson de La Cava: :: EL MESON DE LA CAVA ::

I didn't realize it has been open since 1967. It's located on the fantastic parkway "Mirador del Sur."

As a kid, i spent my summers down the street from this restaurant (60's & 70's) where my uncle and aunt still has a house.

Thanks for the pictures Frank...
It looks like you have visited Samurai few more times since you last sent me the pictures. The Samurai will be my definite place to visit when I visit Santo Domingo next time. But meanwhile I'll be going back for New Jersey for couple of weeks on 20th so I will be stuffing my belly with enough raw fishes, seafood and steaks to last for couple of months. Like you I have developed a love for raw fishes ever since I can remember. Family owning a boat and befriended with a master Sushi chef in one of the NJ restaurant put fuel into a fire. Right now I think I can finish a good sized fluke sashimi and a big bottle of sake in one spot.

Keep the pictures coming....
Just 19 more and few more days till this drooling stops.....:p

Great pics, Frank. I was there with the ex in the mid-90's. I remember the gazpacho. :) Everyone should visit at least once, if only for the feel of the place.

2a). The best Thai seafood salad i've ever had anywhere. Period. Sean makes his own spicy Thai sauce for this signature salad--called the "Kaisen Thai Salad" on the menu at Yamazato in Cabarete:
