Greetings. I am interested to know: for those that have renewed DR residency if your retirement income has to be deposited in a Dominican Bank. Is it acceptable to immigration for retirees to show the pension income coming into a USA bank for DR residency renewal?

They ask to see bank statements from a local bank covering the last six mnoths. I don't think they look at them, but they do check that you have the statements.

I became a citizen in 2004 a short time after another Dr1 member Alain in DR, who was a friend.of mine. Only requirement I recall was a chest XRay in SD and a copy of my birth certificate certified by the Embassy in NY. I had my lawyer in NY handle that. Any additional papers were handled by my DR attorney.

Now just to get on the "Residency Merry Go Round" you need to jump through a maze of hoops. .NOT WORTH IT.

For sure it gets harder and harder to see any benefits from it.

Do they ask for bank statements on all types of residency renewals or just the RENTIER type?

They have never asked for a bank statement on my RT-9 temporary residency renewals(5). I just renewed less than a month ago. Several permanent residents have posted here that they had to provide bank statements on renewal.

The reality is many live as tourists in the DR and it’s not a problem it seems. If it was they wouldn’t just accept visitors leaving and just paying an overstay tax. And it then makes no sense to make getting permanent residency harder and harder as it’s not exactly as if Dominican citizenship is that desirable.

Hire an attorney and walah, no fuss no muss

I agree. Or if you are in the area, go down and see them. The guys at the Migracion office in the Malecon are very friendly and helpful, at least I've always found them to be so. The last time I went the lady said that she wanted to apologise from the bottom of her heart for the delay I had experienced and she made me coffee and gave me her personal whatsapp number in case I needed any extra info. That kind of service is hard to find in DR.

(Just in case you think I gave her a tip, she went crazy when I took out my purse and put it on the desk, "put your purse away, we cannot have any money at all here". Cameras everywhere evidently, absolutely zero propinas allowed)
