Sooner or later some consideration should be given to having the police do their jobs. Of course, only after we solve the problem of 4 star service at 5 star resorts.

There is zero (and has been zero for 20+ years) amet/digesett presence between cabarete & sosua, with exception of the occasional operation to confiscate motos of drivers without helmets near entrance to el choco.

It’s one of the pleasures, as well as one of the pains of living in the area.

Twenty chicanes between Sosua and Cabarete will help to slow down the traffic. That will never happen in DR.

Something that would help, would be to set up something similar to guardrails in between the lanes, where it shouldn't be necessary to go over to the other lane. That way it would stop all the stupid overtakings that are one of the root causes of so many recent accidents. And either get more police on the road, and not just on the 15th and 30th outside playero or outside the Sosúa beach between 7am - 7pm, or create a system where individuals with video evidence can report any vehicle doing illegal things on the road, and then the police could investigate and fine those people. Because in the end, it's the idiots that shouldn't allowed on the road who does so many damage to the rest of us. And if they enforce it so much that people just get tired of it and they either have 2 choices, follow the rules or get of the road, then perhaps some order could be restored. This will of course never happen as there's just not to much incentive, to much money that needs to be spent, and probably among many it's just not going to be popular and probably cost PRM their political power at the next election. So nothing is going to change, which might be something to take into consideration for anyone moving here, is it worth living in the wild west and at any time be involved in a deadly accident, is that's what "paradise" is supposed to be?

75% of carro publico drivers act like total morons. If they come to a line of stopped traffic at a light they will pass with no regard for oncoming traffic then try to squeeze back in pushing law respecting cars out of their way. Or they will try to squeeze past on the right side.
After passing cars often they will pull to the right to let passengers off but are blocking traffic, never looking for a safe place to pullover.
Between taxis and carros públicos and 'entitled' Dominicans, who in their own mind they are all-important, they are the cause of most vehicle to vehicle accidents. Throw in unlicensed and reckless motos and it's the recipe for the insanity called driving that is served in DR.

I have had that thought many times. I wonder how long they would last.

The other thing that narks me are guaguas ! I have to say, quite a few put on their indicators on their right side when they are pulling over to stop. very good !. however they then have a memory loss and decide to keep them on for the next three miles and the next however many stops ! I obviously upset one guy when I went to pass thinking he was still stopped when in fact he went to pull out with the right indicator still on .... he then tail gated me into Cabarete and proceeded to cut me up by Linares honking away on his horn !! Of course I should have known better with my lack of anticipation !

If you're living in Sosua you probably know who Chichito is, he died 2 days ago in an accident driving a 4 wheel 😥

That's happened to me several times, too. They're stopped with the right blinker on and you think they're loading or unloading passengers, so you go to pass them and they pull out with the right turn blinker still on.

I'm a bit surprised that nobody has commented that last few weeks CRAZY traffic accidents that has occurred on the "highway" between Sosúa and Cabarete, specifically around Perla Marina.
There has been at least half a dozen serious accidents on that road just the last few weeks, and the worst happened on Monday that sadly cost 3 lifes and 8 seriously injured.

This is getting out of control. Daily I fear for my life while driving, both from crazy motos who don't have respect for their own life or others, and from other 2 axel vehicles:

Don't really know what else to say, except that the government has to do something soon as this is getting ridiculous.
As some one mentioned that road has been a disaster for the past 20+ years. With accidents much worst than the previous few weeks. People riding hi powered motocycles and hitting poles and cars and heads being detached and found yards away. Nothing will change with that road. Relocate to another part of the island.

Drivers forget to turn off their turn indicators in other countries I believe, not just here. It’s a global problem.

Al país que fuertes haz lo que querés...
When in Time as the Romans does!

Last time I was driving in Sosua a Gringo was honking and harassing me trying to pass. He didn't know I still have my Dominican Taxi driver skills 😞 it's just a matter of two or three days for me to get use again to drive with the flow in DR.
