@drloca:
first of all: do you think a tourist comes here with a pistol? And do you thin a tourist can make a show and use his contacts?
But it is ok, in forums you allways find people who knows everything better!

Thanks to Mirador. And I promised I keep people informed.
Now we have to employees sitting in prison. And the check up of the hotel stuff (after Mirador passed the message that this happened 6-8 years ago also very often) brings some nice surprises: from drug dealing to stealing, a lot from the stuff have been sitting in prison. I think now also MR. LOCA understand why the hotel have to be responsable for this case.
It?s allways nice to help someone, but to make a thief to a worker in the security, that?s not fun any more.

Thanks again to all who give us information and maybe have information.

Not the same hotel / resort but ...

I've just returned from my 6th visit to Bahia Maimon (Puerto Plata). This was the first time I heard of stealing from rooms. A couple had hidden their safe key in their room (Reception tells people not to keep room and safe key togehter). "Someone" got into the room, found the key and took a bundle of US$50 bills. They left smaller notes and the lady's jewelry!

Different incident, same resort. Someone had their digital camera stolen in the Casino. There is video surveilance but the police weren't interested and wouldn't make a report that the insurance would need.

Smoky, I'm not sure I understand your postings. Are you saying that they arrested employees of the hotel (Barcelo Cabell in Juan Dolio) for stealing from the trunk of a hotel guest? Were you that guest?

Latest news:
2 employees enjoy now a new home - and this is a safety place! Arrested is the chief of the reception (one of the guys who watched my friend when he put the luggage in the trunk) and also the guy who was the "watchman" on the parking area.
Police asked the guys: do you heard about other robberies in the hotel/parking area? And the respond was: NO! That never happen here....and than they get confrontated with the last police-reports: 8 roberries in 1 week!
Still the process is going on. I keep you informed.
And to answer the question: it doesn't happen to me, it was a friend of mine who asked me to help and publish it.
Still we are looking for victims from this hotel!!!

Quotes from smoky:
"8 roberries in 1 week!"

"To all members here in the forum whom are living on the north coast (Sosua-Cabarete):
I heard rumors in the street now. But nobody will tell details or say it loud.
-Last week just on one day they have stolen 5 cars in Sosua.
-La Mulata start getting visitors by night again. Burglars are active again.
-Lomas Mironas: dominican thiefs have killed a haitian watchman (strangulated)when they deinstall an inversor
Problem on most webpages: they have a lot of promotion from real estate agents. And specially this clients don't like this to be published. Would be great to get details."

What is it with you? I don't believe either of these posts that you have started. My opinion is that you are trying to discourage visitors to the DR.
You only talk about robberies and crimes committed from one end of the Island to another.RUMORS RUMORS RUMORS
I can not speak about the situation in Sosua but I can't believe they had 8 robberies at the Cappella in one week with no one getting fired! You will never find 8 people to report thefts from the Capella.
What happened to you in the DR which motivates you to write such BS on a message board?

my digital camera was stolen from one of the guys from animation team;
how i know? because the entire resort knows it. At first I reported it as
lost b/c i thought i had losted; security chief and in reception told me that
employees cannot steal things b/c all employees are searched before leaving each day. What i found later (after i was in usa) was that the guy who stole
it lives in the resort (animation team always get treated better) thus he will never be searched. And i was told that if i accuse him the hotel mgt would not do anything about it since they don't want rumors to go around. So
back in the USA i couldn't do much. I only regret losing the memory card with many photos; i can buy the camera again but not the photos. I called resort and asked to talk to the guy from animation team and the receptionist told me
i could not talk to employees; this is when i knew the hotel knows who stole my camera.... why? b/c i have called before to talk to other hotel workers before who are friends and they always, always connect me to them.

i have since bought same camera b/c i have other memory cards and i love the camera so i bought another..... so going back and accusing the employee would do nothing... it would be too late and waste of time,, and they might even not let me stay in their resort b/c of the mess i can create... so my plan is to go back as a guest,,, this time be more cautious and say a couple of sarcastic things to the thief.

Why do some people always look to hold others liable for their mistakes and stupidity!!! Why should Barcelo Resorts be held responsible or have their reputation tarnished because of the ignorance of some tourist?????

because EMPLOYEEEEEEEEEEEES are not supposed to steal from guests;
that's why!!!!!!!

Folks, you need to look after your stuff! If you leave it lying around, it will be taken. People will assume that you don't value it, therefore you can afford to lose it. If you look after it, people will assume that you value it, therefore your chances of keeping it, are much greater.

Values here are different from values where you come from. But then again, if you leave it lying around in your home country, in a tourist area, it will probably be taken as well!

Oh sorry. Yes, the DR is a wonderfull country. Allways sunshine, smiling people...
And the posting about the robberies in JUAN DULIO, BAVARO HOTEL: If you don?t belive it, pm me and I will give you the phone-number from a colonel. He can tell you more what is going on there.
And about robberies in LA MULATA: I can tell you that moreless 2 years ago a robbery happened there. The gang was very busy in La Mulata. When they get a pumpgun (robbery in the house of Mr. B.) they came next day to us (uphill El Choco). The result: raping two women and they shoot one guy (a friend of mine). Joachim G.
So it was a run downhill. Nobody like to live anymore in Caribean hills.
Now it start again. Sorry that I ask to get information! But when the show start again, I will be in alert! This has nothing to do with scaring tourists! They have other type of crime (timeshare, overprices and so on). And all over in the world you have robberies. So what? But here everbody is quiet and don?t like to talk about it - until we have the next one killed! Thanks for your understanding.

shame or mistake

I know maybe someone stole those items but also I could think the bell boys were thinking it was an arrival and they started taking out bags from the trunk, they didn't find the owner so, then they put it in the luggage room.

anyways, Not matter were you stay, you have to be aware about thing like that.

PS: Again if was stolen the person will be easy to get, putting a few guys in the cage will be enough.

I have been going to DR for over 3 years now and this last trip alot things came up missing like my brand new 7.2 digital camera :cry: . But I will say this when I was in Puerto Plata and parked my jeep in the Supermarcado parking lot thieves broke into it and took my friends dvd camera's and my cd's and I could believe they even took one of my friends socks and his dirty t-shirt (keep in mind this has never happended to me before so I was a little bit surprised). The lesson is donot keep valuables in your car or if you stay in a resort leave it out in the open trust no one just as if you where in your native country.

tip of the day! from my own experience...

I travel a lot throughout the country, and whenever I have to leave my car unanttended, beyond visual reach, I invariably find someone in the vecinity who I befriend and ask his name (could be a nearby shop owner, street peddler, or even a shoeshine boy...) who I ask to keep an eye on my car and its contents for a reasonable time, for an attractive wage (usually between the equivalent of 1 and 2 US dollars). I've done this for decades (sometimes leaving articles that if gone could cause a lot of trouble for myself and whomever came into its possession), without regrets.

I am not interested in talking to a "colonel". But you can PM me with the names of the employees in jail if you wish. I am familar with the General Manager at Capella and also the Manager of all Barcelo resorts in the RD so I have an idea how they handle these matters.The head of security(retired now) at Capella is also a good friend of mine.
I too am aware that crime exists in Jaun Dolio. I lived there and saw it. Some people at least have posted some good advice about how to protect our own belongings in the RD. I took many precautions myself. Such as never having cash in my home. I had a safe deposit box for $$$, important documents,jewelry and any other item that I did not want stolen. As a matter of fact I kept these things safe in a safety deposit box located at Capella. I never had a problem with anything missing from there.
I do hope you settle all your problems with crime there.
Excuse me now while I go to dodge bullets from the drive by shootings here in my neighborhood the USA.

Isn't that how the guy in the earlier thread got his 2 laptops and other stuff ripped? I beleive that the security guards at the hotel were the only ones that saw him according to his post. After about 2 zillion replys, I think the general concenus was the guards at the hotel were the ones that ripped him. Not sure where this was, but seems it was an AI up north, or maybe Bavaro/PC area.
