We have booked this resort via Thomson, Having read the reviews on TA we are getting more and more concerned that maybe we have made a mistake. We usually stay at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus in Bayahibe, it has just over 400 rooms and is nicely laid out and with well established vegitation, the RPPC looks sparce and there have been several reports that the food is not very good and the rooms smell bad, forgive me for asking is this just people being over picky we are really worried and we go in 11 days:ermm:

Rui Palace Punta Cana
I have been to Riu Palace Punta Cana many times in the past year (usually for weekend stays). You have NOT made a bad choice.
The resort is excellent, new, beautiful, rooms are very comfortable, with good AC, good cable TV, have liquors directly in the room, full fridge with various soft frinks, several bars, many restaurants, excellent a-la-carte restaurants, plentiful buffet, beautiful lobby and piano bar, nice evening entertainment with live music on the plaza, good food, nice pool, OK animation (if you feel bored you can go enjoy animation activities in the Bambu on the right), free wifi Internet in the sports bar, 24 hour sports bar with midnight snacks.
Anywhere you stay in RPPC, it's close to the beach, to the pool, to the theatre, to the lobby, it's really nice.
It is 5 stars and I give it 5 stars. You won't be disappointed.

If you are able to go most weekends, I assume you are a local, is it normally full of locals at weekends? As we have stayed at other hotels in Juan Dolio where locals came to stay thursday thru to Sunday.
Can you also tell me, my husband normaly wears formal three quarter length trousers and open toed shoes are these acceptable for dinner?
can you also tell me are the plug sockets there 2 pin or 3 pin and are the flat pins slanted or straight? its a big issue as my daughther wants to take her straighteners and i need a voltage converter but i cant recall how the plugs look:ermm:

Because it is august it will be fuller than usual with locals. Also many Dominicans from abroad come to the DR in August so you may meet more Dominicans than usual at this time of year. But it's not like the Dominicans are the majority guests in the hotel.
Your husband should wear full length trousers, sandals with socks, but regular shoes are preferred. Palaca PC is more formal than other RIU hotels. For a-la-carte restaurants, casual formal is a must.
The sockets are standard 110V DR/USA/Canada type plugs. I think bathroom may have 220V continental Europe type plugs, but I am not sure (don't recall). You are better off getting a travel plugs converter that can be bought for couple of dollars anywhere. You will need standard USA/Canadian plug to us ein most of the places.

Thank u for all your help. I have purchased a step up adapter to use my electrical items. it is a usa to uk so i wont need to use my plug adapters. it was only ?8 from ebay.
Fortunately we have purchased several pairs of linen long pants for my husband.

I have seen some weddings in RPPC, they do it in the gazebo on the plaza or on the beach. Your choice.
lol, formal 3/4 length trousers or pants as some call them are below the knee and above the ankle so they come to the middle of the calf/shin, they can be casual or formal my husband wears both but tends to wear formal for dining. Hope that helps if not let me know and i will do my best to try and explain or post a picture for you to see.
