The Dominican government is authorizing Russian and Ukrainian tourists stranded in the country to stay here until they can book an alternate flight or their status is resolved. The Tourism Cabinet of the Abinader administration has agreed with the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores) and hotel representatives to guarantee the stays of Ukrainian and Russian tourists whose bookings had ended at resorts until a definitive solution is found to their situation.

The decision was taken within the framework of a meeting of the Tourism Cabinet, headed by Minister David Collado. The meeting was convened to deal exclusively with the issue.

According to preliminary surveys, 16,927 visitors with Russian or Ukrainian residency are currently in the country, most of them staying in hotels, according to Asonahores.

Regarding the Russian tourists, who amount to...

Ukrainians will be welcomed in Canada and the EU.

Canada prepared to welcome an 'unlimited number' of Ukrainians fleeing war, minister says.

Canada — part of a plan to accept an "unlimited number" of people who want to leave.

To start, Fraser said his department has created a new visa category that will allow a limitless number of Ukrainians to come to Canada to live, work or study here for up to two years.

People accepted under the Canada Ukraine Authorization For Emergency Travel program will have an open work or study permit and employers will be free to hire as many Ukrainians as they want.

The scheme proposed by the Commission will automatically grant those fleeing Ukraine a residence permit and access to employment, social welfare and housing for up to three years. read more

Exactly this. I bet the government has told the hotels to let these guys stay but isn't offering to pay. And we know how some Russians like to drink vast amounts I'm pretty sure there are a few hotels screwing over this.

At the children’s park along the beach in Las Terrenas this past week there was a foreign couple with a little boy. The mother was discreetly crying at one point. They seemed very down on their luck.
She brought the boy to the merry-go-round when my children were playing on it, and said something to me in what sounded like Russian. It was not French, Dutch, or German. I asked if she spoke English or Spanish in both languages, but she did not understand. In retrospect I should have tried to use voice translation on my phone but the woman was not persistent and I think she was just trying to make casual conversation.
I have had consistent bad experiences with Russians in the DR, mostly at the airport. I wish no ill will toward those stuck here, especially people with children and limited resources.

I have no idea if that family was stranded due to the conflict over there, but I definitely hope they are okay.

Looking forward to or after that long flight to Moscow, grumpiness should be expected. lol

Then there is the service and food of Aeroflot. I have no idea if it’s a good airline, but it doesn’t rank among the world’s 10 best airlines.

Spent two weeks in Russia in 2017. Unhappiest and rudest people I have ever dealt with. Having said that I met some wonderful people as well.

We often go back home to -40C and still have the decency to treat people fairly politely.
Dominicans and Dominican Yorks are typically more considerate in my experience.

That being said, I felt very sorry for what I believe was a Russian family in Las Terrenas last week. Their little boy was probably only 2 or 3.

More bad news for the stranded: Visa, Mastercard and Paypal cancelled Russia. Impossible now to make Payments, at least for the Russian part.

In Germany lots of Russian and Ukrainian truck drivers stranded on parking lots. Poor devils are out of money, fuel, food.

Guess many are stranded around the globe and in difficult, even worse situation than those in the DR.
