Hello All,

I did search this thread before posting now. I could not find what I am looking for. Cantabrico on Tiradentes in Sto. Dom. (spelling?), which members recommended to me two years ago was the best dining experience OF MY LIFE. The service was impeccable and the food sumptuous.

Sadly, it appears to be out of business. Google Maps says "closed temporarily," but there is no phone response and the website no longer exists.

I am looking for a substitute. In Googling, one can find many sets of "10 Best Restaurants in Santo Domingo." I made a list of ten, including La Casina, Ajuala, Larimar, Neptunos, Don Pepe, El Conuco, Chancho Gusto, and Lila. I checked Google Maps for locatlion, and the pictures for ambiance and menus. I eliminated eight. It's a toss up between La Cassina and Don Pepe. One is entirely seafood and the other is international with some seafood. I am treating my wife for her birthday. She loves seafood, me not so much. Any opinions on these two? Any others in Sto. Dom. that you would strongly recommend?

Thanks.

Is the original Cantabrico de Elias no longer open?

Isn't Mitre the old steakhouse that was on Lincoln a while back?

412 4.7 stars: PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Sad. More than a year ago I had my 70th birthday with my wife and my best buddy. No liquor and no holds barred on food. We ordered whatever we wanted and as much as we wanted. Came to nearly RD$ 20,000. Later a segue to the patio for cigars and coffee. Sad to see this special place go.

Yeah, burned through a lot of money and great food there. They made us an Alaskan crab stuffed Lobster once that was probably the best meal I've ever had.
Seems like none of the older top of the ladder places stay around once the original owners can't run them anymore.

Maybe try SBC Kitchen in Downtown Center. Lots of parking and a nice ambiance.

Don pepe has great food and amazing service. (Out of the "top ten" that would be the only one worth going)

I wouldn't recommend sbg for what you're looking for.

I went to cappuccino and it had very good food and service and upscale clientele (but not the obnoxious type)

I agree with you, Sol. Don Pepe is a big favorite of Politicos too. Another favorite of theirs is Meson Iberia.

yes, also, directly across the street from Iberia is Meson Cienfuegos,. A traditional Spanish restaurant. Both very good.
