the prior mentioned Hotelmanager salaries, those numbers are some kinda fabulous.
I don't know most managers of the around 100 hotel properties in PC, but I know a good number, they live comfo in their 'own' hotel, yes, but for many the above mentioned would be a sweet upgrade.

Tropigas Truck Driver, 15 years on the same Job, 50K per month.

Sportfishing Charter boat Captain, youngest is over 15 years on that Job, 15K per month fix, plus the sold fishies(half for his Mate)and of course Plus the Tips, who are usually the biggest part of the Salary.
Sportfishing Charter Boat Captain as Head Captain of the lil Fleet, in charge of the Captains and Mates of the Sister Boats, in charge of their Vacations Plannings/Days off etc etc, since over 10 years on that Position with me, 30K per month plus fishies plus Tips and after such long time of course some extras like assistance when a new car get's purchased, a new room built at his house etc etc.

Mate on a charter Boat, depending on how long in the same company, between 8-12K per month, from 10K ahead he needs to be able to Captain the Boat/Replace his Captain on the Days off etc, plus half of the fishies and half of the Tips, those are always shared in equal parts between the Crew on each Boat working with me.

Driver for Transfers from hotels to the Marina, 10K plus Tips.

house cleaning and washing Lady for 2-3 days per week, called when needed in the neighbourhood, 500 pesos per day.

Attendand(sp?, sorry) who sells you the stuff at the local Colmadon here, 8K per month plus free housing and Food.

Secretary in a small business office here, 16K per month plus the ride to work every day.

and the Combination Job:
Housecleaner, clothes washer, Cookie(European styled and spiced), roommaid, Nurse, Backrubber, vacationpartner, drink service to to my hangmatt waitress, Mother of the 3 Boys, Lectioner when I come home Drunk,
in short terms: The Wife/Mrs,
Priceless,
if I ever count the Bill on that Salary,
at the Moment I see the result's number,
at that Moment I sure would be divorced.
Hey,
I wouldn't change her for anything,
so I don't count, no Salary Number, lol.

cheers
Mike

the Claro friend is clearly overpaid... with the lousy performance they deliver....

very interesting topic... gives a very clear view...

btw... the difference of what an USAID official employee earns, against what an employee working for a "sponsored usaid" agency earns, could indeed be huge...

Could I get their names or the names of the hotels that pay this much?

No, but I can tell you that these guys are in the business for many years, get transferred around within the company worldwide every now and then. This is just international standard. Why should they come and work for less in the DR.
About the hotels? Well, just big international companies.

This is an even better response then I thought I might get. Thank you all and no we are not done yet..........

DR1 - can we make this a sticky please? I see threads constantly about wages.......

Hotel Managers in Punta Cana - yes those salaries are within the industry standards. The larger hotel chains - those GM's and other managers will be moved around internationally so I am not surprised.

Mike Fisher - you crack me up!!!! I am sure your wife is "priceless" she has to be............

a public high school teachers base salary is 7,500 pesos a month (for a 4 hour shift). there is a 1,500 pesos "bonus" for all teachers with a bachelor's (almost 100% of teachers now). plus "raises" for years in service, master's degrees, extra hours (like in politecnicos and pilot programs).

in our family:
public high school "sub-director" - $32,000 a month
private english tutoring - $300 pesos an hour (plus transportation)
part-time babysitter (4 hours a day, 4 days a week) - $3,000 pesos + school fees
cleaner - 1 day a week $300 pesos a day.

How things have changed. I used to do that back in the days and the rate was 35 pesos/hr

he is a retired Cuban Teacher and comes to our place on his own costs, to teach just one person privately 3 mornings per week for one hour each of those days. I guess he spends 60-70 pesos of that for the Bus roundtrip, ha ha.
