Salcedo Carnival Disaster
So sad to hear what happened. I´m hearing a kid just died and there are others in serious condition. Apart from the people who caught fire, others got burns trying to help.
Traditional macarao costumes for Salcedo are made with crepe paper. Every carnival group has a spot with a stage which they call their "cave¨. This is where they hold activities for friends or fans for each group. This happened around the one for a group called ¨Los Toros¨. This was before everyone was supposed to get together for the carnival. Some say someone kicked a firecracker but there are still multiple versions about what happened.

Mayor of Salcedo confirmed that carnival organizers didn't have a permit to use firecrackers.

In one of the videos, you can see when the fire starts. He was engulfed almost instantaneously. In a matter of seconds, it had jumped to a few others.

I actually know some who did try to help with his bare hands. Also heard of some of people used their clothes.
That must be one of those self proclaimed "photojournalists". They profit from having news blogs and accounts on social media, and often post pictures of accidents and wounded people.

He died while she was attending the graduation. Brutal. My condolences to her, and may her child RIP.
It doesn't end there. The guy who brought the fireworks lost 2 sons in the accident. He was arrested, and in jail just suffered a heart attack.
She was pregnant and was rushed to the hospital because of her wounds from trying to help her 5 year-old. She gave birth a few days ago, then the university tells her she has to attend her graduation and on that same day, her kid died. Her brother is also in critical condition.
The kid of a colleague was pronounced dead today. So sad, such a sweet kid! May he rest in Peace.
