Wondering what is the distance from the airport in Samana to the town of Cabrera, and what would it cost for a taxi or bus? Is there any way to book a taxi in advance?

If AZS is El Catey then my guess is around $35 USD. That is a GUESS!
If you don't have boxcars full of baggage then I'm sure there are other options.

I think a taxi will probably cost you closer to $100 USD... maybe $75 at the least. It is $100 USD from Puerto Plata airport to Cabrera and that drive is only about 10 - 15 minutes further. If you don't have much luggage, you should be able to get a gua gua from just outside the airport to downtown Cabrera for about $4 (150 pesos). What date are you looking for a drive?

I usually fly into POP, but the airline is suddenly offering better prices and much better connections to Samana, and my destination is Cabrera, so I thought I might try flying there. I'm just not familiar with the distance from Samana, you say it's a bit closer than POP? Are the roads about the same? I have a fair amount of luggage when I land as I do volunteer work, so bring in supplies. I don't have as much when I leave!

"Are the roads the same?" Its the same road.... #5... but WAY better condition.
The Nagua- Cabrera road is almost all new - very easy driving, although , recently there have been a couple of donkeys wandering aimlessly on the roadside... so take care.

Cayo Levantado to Cabrera is quite a hike, about two + hours each way, your hotel should be able to organize the transfer to and from. But, you may want to google casa dorado (?) in Las Galeras, they have sport fishing and it's a lot quicker for you to get there, around 45 mins max each way. Just a thought.

I don't know of any fishing from Cabrera.... are you thinkung of Rio San Juan?
