Located in Duarte Province, San Francisco de Macoris is the provincial capital. It is considered a city by Dominican standards with a population presently around 65,000 people (probably more by now). It has free trade zones and manufacturing and assembly are major local industries. Duarte is a landlocked province and is not on the ocean.
