The initiative began in December 2021 with the company Matsubara Shokuhin understanding the meat and vegetable stew would be of liking to Japanese consumers. Sancocho in the box was launched in July 2022, Dominican ambassador to Japan, Robert Takata Pimentel, told Listin Diario.

What country did sancocho originate from?

Miesposa says DR ,but then she would .😩😁The internet says Canary Islands because of its proximity to Africa…believable because you can see the African influences in Canarian cuisine.

I remember there was a thread here in DR1 about the history of sancocho back in 2007 …someone said “Spanish town of Seville” and everyone else got …hungry 🤤….is the origin of sancocho really that mysterious?

The concept of a stew is not a mystery and every culture has one using ingredients that the common folk had access to. Root veg or potato or whatever. Of course tough cuts of meat can be added depending on budget.

I would add that the Dominicans have destroyed the stew with the popular method of blast furnace style boiling.

Spain. Sancocho exist in most Spanish speaking countries (with local variations). Whenever you see that it's because the Spanish took it everywhere they went. Same with other things such as dulce de leche, arroz con leche, etc.

The thing about sancocho is that most Dominicans truly believe this is a local creation in its entirety. In reality, the Dominican version can be considered a local creation, but most of the things that makes a sancocho already existed before it was eaten on the island. That's another sign of its foreign origin since sancocho is normally eaten while is hot or at least warm. Think about it, the DR has always been a tropical country. Eating something hot in a warm place. Yeah, very local creation. lol
