Remind me never to "split" a fare with you, I would think it would have been 50/50. lol
Yea but the way it workd out he was skeptical if he could get a cab from the airport to Caribe Tours for 650 because he only had that on him until he got to Sosua.

He also didnt have a phone, so I told him he could.come with me. Ill call a cab syndico in the city and we go into town together. He was happy because he got there before the 1030 bus and I was content because I only had 2300,pesos on me until I could find a receptive ATM(btw, that nonsense is a drag...10k withdrawal limit. The Ahorra Cibao machines kept telling me I was exceeding the maximum value)

So you left him broke and alone in the big city!
In that case I would only have charged him $649 so he wouldn't be penniless.

Well he had $ for the bus fare to Sosua. He had $ just didnt convert his cash to pesos which he wanted to do at Caribe Tours also.

If you are a frequent traveler, make "friends" with a Taxista you trust/like and get his number for future arrivals.
My guy is always waiting when my flight arrives, for 500 pesos into the city of Santiago.....

Although I live in Santiago and like it, there really isn't a lot to do here in the sense that a tourist would view the city. Dominicans love the Monument both because its free to visit and it is one of the only things to do. This is why they say each time in the past a new shopping mall opened it was big news.

i always enjoy the monument...from friday and sat nites to an early sunday evening... it is a nice place to meet ladies....relax stroll...and maybe eat some street food in front of the casino across the street...

To the OP:
I would suggest that you save a lot of BS and hassle and hire either a small van or middle sized on for you and all of your luggage.

As usual, I would call/email jjtransportation.rd@hotmail.com and find out how much it would cost you and your gang to get to Sos?a quite early.

It is a viable option versus taxi to Caribe Tour ->Sosua (3 hours at least between waiting and travel) + taxi in Sos?a to your place.

If you are alone, then the taxi-bus-taxi will work too.

I frequently use the Hotel Jardines. It is in sector Jardines which has a lot of good restaurants. NOT walking distance to the monument but if you have transportation it is 5-10 minutes away.
Try the restaurant Aroma del Sol, still across from the monument, same side as Puerta del Sol but they sell beer (Puerta del Sol only sells Quisqueya (HORRIBLE)).
