I disagree with this. Dominicans of all classes are pretty sensitive when it comes to the water. They will either use bottled water or boil the crap out of it, but I believe they will use bottled water. That is why you can get 5 gallons for 30 pesos. As illogical as Dominicans can be, they do get that becoming violently ill and potentially dying is not a good thing. It is usually the foreigners that end up doing stupid things with the water, just because of what they are used to back home.
Yeah right........ lots of campisinos collect rain water,
agua de dios ( more or less nothing wrong there, with a stress on the
more or less ), to drink of course....... the scary part is often they collect under those iron roofs ( mmmh, who can say rust and bird droppings..... ). And 8f course they also burn rubbish ( ie plastic and other )..... but do they realise the ashes deposit themselves on roof tops ??
We have done the test to show some in-laws. Boil the water a long long time, till dry, and check the deposit at the bottom of the pan.
Also, a minority, to save on agua de botellon ( 35-40 pesos ), actually use river water for food and drink.......
Welcome to the campo !!!!!!!
On a side note, agua de botellon, is more or less deminieralised watrer ( read the sticker ), which is not bad for u, but not very good either.
Also I can imagine some bottle processing plants are perfect, but others less...... so..........
