Planning a vacation for early Jan 2000. Never been to the island and wondering which area is best. We love the beach in the day time and casino in the evening. the closer to the beach the better. Also if you do not speak spanish is it really a problem. Thank you for all the assistance.

To make it easy, Santo Domingo has no beaches, at least not that you would care to use. Nearest beach is 45 mins to Boca Chica.

Boca Chica or Playa Dorada on the North have more "Excitement" than PC, but PC has the upscale beautiful beach resorts, and casinos are available almost everywhere.

If you elaborate on what you are looking for, I think people will be able to better help you

This is so hard because I am so pro Sto. Dgo.:-( But if you love beaches, then there is no question that Punta Cana is it! There are no true beaches in the capital, but SD is THE place for nightlife, excitement and Dominican culture and history. IMHO the best casinos are in SD as well. Can you tell I am secretly reeeeally selling you SD here? (LOL)

In Punta Cana, I suggest that you stay at the Bavaro city, errr, I mean complex. The Bavaro complex has a nice casino. I think staying here would definetely fit the bill for what you may be looking for. If you go early in January, the Bavaro will most likely still be decked out with their Christmas decorations. The complex is BEAUTIFUL during the holiday season. HTH!
