Re: Pitiful ignorance from my foreign friends
Weather is a major factor in liveability. The only reason more Canadians do not live in Santo Domingo is because they cannot afford it. Most Canadian tourists visiting DR are blue collar workers on all-inclusive plans, a type of tourism reserved for low income people. They would love nothing more than to stay here, but Santo Domingo and our beach fronts are out of their league.
Over priced real estate. What ignorance! There is no such thing as overpriced real estate. If a market exists and there are people willing to pay for it, there is no overpricing. What we have here are lots of foreigners who are too poor to compete in this market and complaining about it. Wealthy and well employed Dominicans are not complaining about it and are buying like crazy. Who do you think is buying the thousands of hi-rise apartment units being built right now with prices over $2,000,000 pesos? Do you think we are building here just for the fun of it?
Are foreigners envious because Dominicans are making it in New York and other foreign countries and bringing their cash here and buying expensive units. Well, sorry guys, if you want to share our wealth, you have to pay for it too. You want to have a beachfront in Punta Cana, ask Julio Iglesias or Oscar de La Renta, he might help you if you got a cool million dollars.
