Several associations of school food suppliers announced they will be suspending meal service to public schools as of Thursday, 3 February 2022. The associations say the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie) is behind in payments for their services and they cannot afford to continue the services. The National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie) is a decentralized agency, attached to the Ministry of Education.

This Adminstration is bragging about how in the year’s end RD$607.45 billion in taxes were collected and yet they can't pay for kids stuck in this horrible public education system to eat lunch?

Something is seriously wrong with these people.

So right. What a f-in embarrassment, especially on the heels of the epic fail of school year 20/21. Taino Bay is wide open though, oh and McDonald's

No kidding. The guy we know who passed his teacher qualification exams in September has been eager to start this whole time.

Just when I think the state of public education can’t get worse, there’s another announcement like this. It sinks the entire system further and further into the depths of where Haiti is at.

It’s intentional. Let them eat cake.

I don’t know if it’s intentional but I do think we are easily Haiti/Venezuela just around the corner.

It can’t be blamed entirely on the new administration despite their own recent failures. It is a long-standing systemic issue.

The President is turning many things around. I am an optimist, and I believe he can make a difference in education, ,too. Problem is, that is not his priority. Also, the buck should stop with the education minister. And I think he should be replaced with someone with the same level of integrity as the President.

I guarantee you it will be fixed by noon tomorrow.

My Dominican husband insists that Abinader is focusing on tourism to bring in the money to fix all the other problems.

He gave the example of the mess that Duarte used to be, and and showed me this video.

RENOVACIÓN PARÍS CON DUARTE ETAPA 1 | SANTO DOMINGO, DN | 2022

He said they are doing it in phases and is very excited about the clean up efforts in San Pedro de Macorís as well. He believes the changes for education will come once there is funding from tourism/pandemic recovery etc. I wish I shared his optimism.

The educational system however is not something you can just wait around and see if it solves by itself. It’s a big price to pay if this generation don’t get the needed preparation.

Of course not. It should have been top priority before the pandemic even started.

I’m of the opinion that it’s well on the road toward irreparable/Haiti.

Lindsey. We have done fund raising for property purchase and that has been held just for that.
Times have changed. Please feel free to use our (wife and myself) contributions in any way you wish. You know best.
