Resort in Playa Dorado

We stayed at the Coral Marien last year. Absolutely beautiful resort. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Hi there,

I've stayed at 4 of the properties in the area and recommend Jack Tar Village and Paradise the most. Their rooms are a little more out dated than some of the newer hotels in the area, but I only change and shower in my room, so that doesn't matter to me.

Tell us what kind of resort are you looking for and it might be easier to help you find something suitable for your needs.

Jack Tar Village, Paradise, Gran Ventana, Flamenco, Villas Dorada & Playa Dorada hotels are on the beach front - Hotel Victoria, Puerto Plata Beach resort are not, but shuttle service runs to the beach. There is also Costa Dorada just outside the Playa Dorada complex.

I would try to avoid Samana Santa if you can, over the weekend all beach activities close down (safety regulations), many excursions are postponed & the hotels are inundated with locals up from Santo Domingo & Santiago (not that I have anything against the locals - Heck, I LIVE here & love'em to death - it is just that much busier & noisy!). Finally, the whole transportation system changes into a one way system which some don't want to obey which causes extreme congestion. I would leave it a week or two to enjoy the area to the full! - Grahame.

I've stayed at the Gran Ventana numerous times, I loved it from the first visit and have never wanted to stay anywhere else in Playa Dorada. My friends all say "oh no, not the same hotel again". But my reasoning is, if you find somewhere you really like, why risk going somewhere you don't know?

A bit more info would be useful though - are you travelling alone, with family, friends, or what? And what are you looking for? I am sure all the hotels on Playa Dorada are very nice, but I would always advise choosing one with a beach front location.

Where ever you end up - have fun!

I have also stayed at the Gran Ventana several times and have the same reactions from my friends. I don't think I would consider another hotel on that complex just because I loved the staff and the location of this resort.

Occidental Gran Hotel Playa Dorada

Hi Osner,
I have been to a couple of resorts in Playa Dorada. I stayed at the Playa Naco Golf and Tennis Resort and it was wonderful! Right near the beach, tennis courts inside the resort, the golf courses are right across, and many other facilities. In another occasion, I stayed at the Occident Club on the Green, which was Ok, but was too far away from the beach. We had to take a shuttle to the beach, which I didn't like. The rooms were very basic, and they closed the buffet very early.

I'm going back to Playa Dorada, in April, by the way, maybe at the same time you're going. Me and my family are planning to stay at the Occidental Gran Hotel Playa Dorada, which was recommended to me by some friends. They said it's extremely clean and spacious. It has two pools, one of them right on the beach. Plenty of good food, drinks and excellent customer service. I booked through a website called dominicanresorts.com, where they have a nice deal of 45 dollars per adult per night, all inclusive. Check them out, I find that it's a great deal!

I hope that this has been informative for you.

I wish you have a nice trip! I'll be there for easter week too.

Ciao!

I know that Gran Ventana and Villas Doradas are very nice. I stayed at Club Dorado last August (See archives) and was happy, more because of who was there rather than the quality of the place. I have been going there since it was built...
I have a godson that runs Puerto Plata Village and my kids go there a lot and enjoy themselves. I have been to Jack Tar, the first AI inthe complex. It is a very nice place to relax.
Do bring your golf clubs....

I just got back from Villas Doradas and had a great time. The staff was great, food was decent and the grounds were very nice. It is also close to the Plaza for a little shopping and change of night life from the resort. I was concerned about noise at night since I am a light sleeper, but I never had a problem.

Playa Dorada Hotel

You don't mention if a beachfront property is mandatory or not. If not, I would recommend Fun Royale/Fun Tropicale without any hesitation at all. It is a 3 star at best, but the staff and food are absolutely wonderful. The resort has 2 sitdown restaurants in addition to the buffet. They have 3 swimming pools if you prefer a pool to the beach. They will shuttle you the beach or you can walk there in 10 short minutes. The food/beverage facility at the beach a real treat. The way the resort is set up, it lends itself to a comfortable social atmosphere. You can meet many nice people from other countries, and possibly create some new lifelong friendships. Fun Royale/FunTropicale certainly deserves a look from you and any other visitors to Playa Dorada.
