Canada’s bold move should end the mistaken view in the outside world that the gang violence, which has brought 60 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince, to a virtual standstill, is nothing but savagery contained in poor neighborhoods. As one local online publication—the respected AyiboPost—explained, the Bigio family’s broad economic holdings include its own recently constructed private port of Lafito, just north of the capital. AyiboPost speculates that Canada may have information indicating that the gangs have been able to use the port to import some of the heavy weapons that are outgunning the beleaguered Haitian police. https://newrepublic.com/article/169554/gilbert-bigio-canada-sanctions-haiti

The Bigio family is involved with Texaco gas stations in the DR and GB Energy which supplies fuel oil to airplanes in Dominican airports. If it's true he is involved in financing the gangs, the DR government should confiscate his financial presence in the DR and freeze qny accounts he has in Dominican banks and/or in other financial institutions. Confiscate any private properties he may own in the DR too (vacation homes and such) and ban him from entering the DR for anything.

When putting gas to your car/suv/etc, keep in mind buying from Texaco could mean part of your money is going to finacially support Barbecue et al.

People love to hate and blame billionaires. Especially when they are unemployed and running low on rum.

Should the rich be above the law?
It has nothing to do with placing blame and everything to do with responsibility and no man (insert the "no mater how much money you have" emoji here) being above the law.
Is that how it works in real life?
(insert the "of course not" emoji here)

In my opinion, unemployed individuals, those who are short on rum or both are not interested in what rich people are doing and they are most certainly not posting about it on DR1 (insert the "unlike others who are posting their narrow minded ideas" emoji here).

Rich people like investing in Canada freezing his assets will hurt nobody likes losing there assets no matter how rich you are
It will only hurt him when the US adds his name to the sanction list - and then perhaps figures out a way to cut off his access to SWIFT transactions. Many of the "BAMBAM" oligarchs in Haiti are honorary consuls of foreign governments which evidently means that they do not have to pay taxes. One assumes that it will also give them a safe haven in case things get too hot for them in Haiti. Most of the Very Rich are second or third generation immigrants from the Middle East and not considered "Haitian" by most Haitians - in that they are not descended from enslaved Africans.

Here is a list of all the "Honorary Consuls" in Haiti - follow the thread - the list is Very Long!
Not as if they have to deal with all the foreign tourists that are there
Are there a lot of visas' being given out to Haitians to visit the Chech Republic? Finland?
These nations ought to withdraw their support for these oligarchs.

"Cette deuxième option est souvent considérée par les Etats pour éviter les charges financières que peuvent représenter ces représentations diplomatiques à l’étranger. C’est donc un choix économique." This second option is often considered by States to avoid the financial burdens that these diplomatic representations abroad can represent. It is therefore an economical choice. https://ayibopost.com/pourquoi-les-...l4_W34R0KyOfMMHbPx7isP7CcNTgl0yKuhVF0Xj2Ek1ps

TAX EVASION SCHEMES
Aided by ALL THOSE COUNTRIES

Seems something that the DR Government might bring to the attention of the UN, no?
The DR, Canada, the US, France, and a few others like the Bahamas - where actual Haitians live -have a valid reason for having "honorary consuls" - but Finland? Peru? These men own the most lucrative businesses in Haiti and by holding these posts avoid paying taxes.
