I was at Awilda yesterday... 11 items, $290 door to door from NYC.
While there , I asked if Awilda 'reverse shipped'... the answer was no, but to call Rosa del Monte.
So, there is truth to this thread.
BTW, as to customs opening packages - I don't think it happens w/ Awilda.
They wrapped 5 of mine together and used that clear flexi-saran wrap stuff.
Clearly, nobody is going to open any of those boxes..... hope not anyway.

We do that ourselves at the house before the boxes are picked up [not all together, we wrap each one individually] - it's called stretch film, and you can buy it on eBay cheap, or at places like Staples. Then our shipper [Embarque Bella Vista] adds metal strapping around each box. They always arrive with the straps and film intact.
I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that......
I had 11/12things -- some odd - umbrellas, etc.

Can anyone report any experiences with this company? There must be huge shipping companies here with all the Embassy and NGO personnel going in and out every 4 years, no? In the end, I will probably end up taking just what I can carry - or maybe ship the artwork... Imposdom? any help appreciated

maybe the best route is to go to a proper shipping company.
Some have been suggested here.... I know Hispaniola freight, there are others.

We never used Rosa del Monte, but casino co-workers of Mr. AE did, and all they did was complain. One guy waited 3 months for his shipment to arrive from Philadelphia.
As WW posted there, Hispaniola was also recommended to me, and just letting you know, that we have begun checking out what would be possible/feasible with them.
I?m happy to post to this thread whatever may come out, if anything, as whether we?ll proceed is not certain either.
It took me quite a few phone calls to get anywhere, but finally last week I was able to speak with the person I wanted to, who even got my email right, and indeed they sent me very professional looking information within 30 minutes.
Not commenting on any further, because I know almost nothing yet, but this far the pricing looks better than I expected.
We are talking about outbound shipment (quantity not yet defined) to EU.
Just big thanks to WW at this point, everything he has said has been correct.
Last year we used Bella Vista (EU-NYC-POP, one big box) recommended by AE, and that service was top notch, nothing to complain about. Now checking other way around...

here is the Dominican post office - "express mail" 2.2 lbs to a kilogram - meaning 22 lbs for 2729 pesos. (I just paid 2000 pesos to send a letter via DHL so that seems like a bargin!)

So I think it is just going to be a DRASTIC thing -- getting everything into 2 or four boxes-- just clothes, art, souvenirs..

Babysat me at the Aduana and took me to buy my placa.

Yep, talked with the same person, very helpful indeed and as said, once I was able to talk with her personally, things started happening without delays.
They quoted me sea/maritime freight, which looked good, will share my experiences if we proceed.
Haina is one port.... a bit west for me.
