I guess picknsend is full of BS then.

Is it possible that this could be incorrectly managed by the courier (eps, picknsend, etc)? Or is it the same for everyone? In other words, can picknsend (or anyone else) screw me?

The reason I moved to picknsend is that their cost/pound (DOP$172) is a bit less than EPS.

I don't know anything about picknsend. I can only speak about EPS. I have not heard/read about anybody who has had to pay duty on items brought into the country by EPS that were invoiced under $200, including CC's $199 computer.

Maybe picknsend's clients do have problems, I don't know about that. Have not heard about picknsend until your post.

If you buy a computer from a reputable place and can show that you paid the price asked by the seller, a screen print of the product page of the seller's website should be enough evidence. If not, I would seriously consider going with somebody else. You can get a lot of input on DR1 about different couriers.

Yes, I have the invoice and it's a legit purchase.

Final question, how much would EPS charge me for a 12 lb. box that measures 18x16x8 ?

Thanks again.

I used EPS to ship my computer.
That 2,500 pesos sounds about right.
If you go to an EPS office to sign up, ask them then.

Not related 100% to the OP but it may help some people:
just to add my experience through regular airport aduana.
I brought a huge inkjet printer epson wf-3540 in original box through customs in Sd airport. This printer does not exist here yet but similar printer would cost 11000 + pesos easily. I was not asked any questions and I was let through. They didn't even care. AZB

Was this recently? We flew in on the 28th, and the luggage coming out was filled with LED/LCD TVs in their original boxes, saw several 40-42". No one stopped anybody.

Remember the "gracia navidena". Dominicans living abroad can bring stuff to the country tax free.

i came back on 30th of december.
they would stop people with Tvs if they are not dominicans living abroad. The dominicans who live abroad can bring in electronic equipment which are valuable up to certain cost. The dominicans and residents who live in DR cannot bring them in without paying duty. I was given this explanation by a custom agent.
