Hi! I'm a female student traveling from the United States to the Dominican Republic for a semester. My hair is short right now, and it doesn't reach my shoulders. Should I grow it out?

Certainly long hair seems to be the preference for Dominican females but I see many with short hair as well. You will have no problem either way.
The OP picked a strange place to come for fashion advice. Personally, I keep my hair short, because I am rather bald and don't like the combover look. Also, I don't want to risk the disapproval of regular DR1 poster "Big" who has a contempt for men with anything other than military style neatness.

Short hair can be sexy and convenient in certain “activities”. So go for short and dye it red. The most important is your BMI.

Short hair would be perfect with the heat and humidity in the DR.

After many years living here I got tired of always putting my long hair in a ponytail. I had it all cut off. I kept cutting it shorted and shorter (I cut my own hair). I love it. Short hair is the way to go in DR. Less sweating. Less hair care. Less products. Keep it short! My humble opinion.
