Same in Santiago. And after I made three viewing goggles and two boxes...Dang!!

Oh well there is always some wine in the fridge...That might work as an eclipse..

Where we are, it really is not that "big of a deal" with only about a 75% eclipse from what I have read.

Clouds in Cabarete are breaking up. How many on the north coast will go blind?

Hopefully it will be cloudy. Lots of retinas will be saved.

Cabarete
My Haitian gardener didn't come to work today because he has heard it is dangerous. No amount of telling him that it is only dangerous if you look directly at the sun could persuade him otherwise. They love their superstitions!

i made two viewing boxes: for miesposo (who is at work) and for me (lazying around at home). i am checking the sun between the chores and so far it's cool. the boxes work, little cloud coverage. i am even taking snapshots with my mobile.

Same here, from my viewpoint a huge dark cloud where the sun is now in Santo Domingo.

We need to repeat the event - here in San Pedro big clouds and thunders just right before the eclipse. Too bad we couldnt see it.

THe whole show just finished here in Panama City Panama. Not much of an event. Less than 1/3 of the sun covered, but was fascinating to watch as it has been the other 2 times i watched it in my adult life.

A non-event.

I agree and it will look best on my tv in the comfort of my living room. It will be interesting to see how many people will suffer eye damage from looking with sunglasses or fake eclipse glasses. Its easier than you think to get hurt. My step son, Mr. Dominican helpful, tells my wife she can safely look at the eclipse using a welding mask. Being a careful person I checked and if you use a welding shield it needs a grade 12 filter lens. Hers did not have even the minimum protection and I stopped her from using it.
