When speaking about my ex (common law) wife with friends, I always refer to her as "chica", never by name.

Dominicans don't mind it at all.
As a matter of fact the only people I ever heard take offense to it are the touchy feely foreigners who post on this forum, lol.

Dominicans don't take offense when you refer to certain females as Chapiadoras...etc. Being PC is not really a Dominican thing.

That's true. My girlfriend's family refer to other family members as "la flaca", "la gorda", etc...and no offense is intended or taken. I know we've all heard similar.
