I'm still confused about how a few windows and road paint are going to attract cruise passengers in their thousands but I'm not into marketing so perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye. (or obstructs the eye more like.)
This must be a cunning plan by our elected leaders...

I've seen that in other cruise ports that most of the passengers don't stray too far from the boat and Sosua is a considerable distance from Maimon considering the state of roads and traffic infrastructure.
The cruise terminals are usually fully equipped and inviting to the pax plus the fact that they can't miss the boat.
If the ships come and go in the usual period, in morning, out evening, then it is quite difficult to see the benefits passing to the locals, other than a few in transport or Ocean World maybe.

Does anyone have any info about the possible change over of passengers through this port?
The airport is ready it seems.
This would be of definite benefit to the NC if they could mix cruise/beach holidays.

perfect assessments. a place like Ocean World will clean up. the mom and pop guys can look elsewhere.

When I told some friends of mine in England that I was going to move to the DR, they were horrified! As regular cruise ship vacationers, the only experience they had of landing in the DR was that they were hassled so much they were actually scared. I agree that most cruisers will just take a few steps off the ship to say they have visited the DR and then race back as fast as possible to the cocoon-like luxury and security of the ship. A long bus trip to Sosua, enclosed bars or not, will be far from their thoughts.

you could not be more correct. and, furthermore, the first time they almost get run over by a motoconcho in a crosswalk, that will be the end of any idea about coming here for a land based vacation.

I honesty don't believe all the changes being pushes in Sosua has as much to do with the new port, as the development of new luxury condos and villas. I believe its those developers who are pulling the strings for change.

you have to be right, because nobody can be that daft to believe that the cruise port will affect Sosua. what an enterprising guy should do is start a girlie bar in Maimon.

Now there is an idea! Do you think the Minister of Tourism would be at the grand opening! Hahaha :D

IMO. I think that the cruse ships coming to the North Coast has NOTHING to do with the recent changes suggested for Sosua. Cruse ships will do nothing for Sosua. AT ALL.

I have info about who wants to buy up Sosua beach and.... they have been at it for over 10 years.

Bottom line is that they DON'T CARE what any of us think... at all.

location. it's simple. if you have a few hours off a ship, sosua has nothing to offer that maimon/puerto plata doesn't have.

what, the ship will offer tours to PC for cheap haitian girls or high mileage girls at Passions ? sounds exciting......

I agree, based upon logic, there is nothing that a cruise port in Maimon will do directly for Sosua.

Indirectly it will expose more people to the north coast of the DR and that almost certainly will lead to more people buying property over time.

The changes in Sosua and Santo Domingo regarding prostitution are from a "higher power".

But do tell about the higher power interested in Sosua Beach.

Has this closing in of the bars actually started? Do you see evidence of it in the town?

The beach seems as normal, no sign at all...the owners that I have talked to seem to think it will all blow over. I heard on the beach yesterday, the rumour is, there is a funding problem all of the sudden.....remember, this is just people talking...who actually knows at this point.
