Can anyone recommend good and reasonable food on Sosua beach? From what I understand, seems like these little places all have numbers??

Thanks in advance.
In Sosua beach I can only recommend Big D' s Place and there is a renewed spot that was mentioned not too long ago in Sosua News which makes good hamburgers. That's about it. Also, there is a lady that sells food close to the entrance of the beach and she has the food in trays.

Epanada lady seems to have vanished. Hope the old gal is alright. I know she was saving up to go to NY to visit a son.

If you park on highway 5 and use the stairs in the middle of the beach, as you get to the bottom you will see on your right a fruit stand run by haitian youth, go passed this both about 30foot withh be a Dominican restaurant. This is where all the locals eat! The food is awesome, cheap, and more than I can eat. Other than that its Big daddies for sure.I stay away from anything minced....ie hamburgers! !!!

I like Big "d's" and also Micheal's Stone Cafe. Both are very good but Michel's has the best view.

Tom at Scandanavian bar prepares his food fresh. Grinds his on chicken for the best chicken burgers in the area. He does his own fish patties and burgers as well. Very clean and very good. I eat there every week.
Mike is open. We ate there 3 weeks or so ago. Called first to make sure he had fresh whole fish to prepare. We had some great red snapper.

I am not a frequent visitor to Sosua but I have to agree with what has been said about Scandinavian Bar. Quality food for sure.

OK I am a happy camper now. Does the same family that lives across the street run it?

Yes it's the same family. Miguel and his wife and kids, they have been there for years. Things have been slow for them lately but they are open every day, same good food, same great view.

Just thought I'd post a funny story about a friend who learned the hard way; never eat a food the location doesn't specialize in becuase your chances for dissapointment greatly increases.

A couple months ago a friend and I were in Sosua for a few days. While there, my buddy wanted to go to Sosua Beach and play chess with a certain Jamaican fella at his restaurant. I decided to tag along becuase there were a few friends I promised I would visit - could meet me there for a beer. Since he was at a restaurant he decided to go ahead and order some jerk chicken from the owner. I tried to secretely give him signs that it was a bad idea but I don't think he caught up. Meanwhile, I was talking to my friends and we all agreed he was nuts for ordering food from the guy. One buddy even mentioned that he has seen the owner wear the same shirt for over a week! Well my buddy got his food and I told him he should eat it at the villa so I can go back and pick up a few things from the house.

I sat at the dinner table and told the friend eating that food is not a good idea. He wouldn't listen so all I could do was tell him he's gonna learn the hard way about not listening to people with good intentions. A few hours later, my friend broke out in a sweat, grabbed his stomach and curled into a ball on the floor. He spent the remainder of the night releasing fluids from every orifice imaginable. A few friends came over and laughed at his expense. We laughed and yelled into the bathroom "aki, la comida Jamaica es no bueno!"

Piergiorgio has the best ocean front view in Sosua. But the food is average at best and the prices are high. But it is a really nice place.

I know exactly what you're talking about and unfortunately I can't say anything to the contrary.

As has been posted by others, Tom's is my favorite spot for tasty food. I've had his burgers, his "Dick in a Canoe", a bratwurst dish, and a few other items. Never had a bad meal there yet.

Big D's is also very good but I have found the portions on his ribs to be a bit small. I think the chicken would probably be more filling.
