Many years ago when I lived in Sosua I received mail from the US. For instance I received credit card renewals. The envelope I received, but the card inside was gone. Once I received a packed of checks. Everything seemed to be in order until sometimes later $10,000 was missing from my US bank account. Turns out someone ripped out a check from the middle of a booklet
and made out a check to themselves. My then Dominican wife was more reasonable. On the eve of a visit to her sister
in the US she made out a check for $8000 which she deposited in her sister's bank account in the US.

In the interest of full disclosure I must state that ultimately I recovered all of my funds which took considerable time and effort, which could have been spent more productively.

Do you still have this Dominican wife ?

I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a mail drop-off at POP. It's not just a "drop box." There's a service window where they sell you the postage and take your mail. I was told the mail gets put directly on the aircraft(?). Anyway, a letter I mailed from there arrived in the US 3 days later.

However, when I lived here 30+ years ago, there was actual mail service. It took 3-4 weeks, but it existed.

I have heard that in the Land of Oz that is the Capital, there is mail service.

I shall click my Louboutins three times to test re: North Coast.

I picked up the package at the Sosua post office.
It was logged in the book as there. Came last week.
Took about 10 minutes to find but the woman working there was lovely with a friendly attitude.
There is a lot of mail for those looking for something. I'd give it a shot before heading to POP.
Am very happy. *Now if the weather would cooperate could get in the water to snorkel in my new suit.

Thanks for letting us know it is indeed still there and functional. I have mailed post cards and other items from this office and they have all arrived at their destination..... Eventually. No worse than buying something on eBay from China in terms of length of time to arrive in Canada.
Mack.

Having items sent via registered mail seems to make a big difference.

Ann, I was reluctant to post, as my experiences are more then 7 years old.

But, I enjoyed the Sosua post office and the lady working there. I had packages sent. Checked several times. Finally arrived. Did it again. And again. The third time, the woman brought out a stack of letters/bills. She remembered where I lived at the time. She sorted the mail and asked if I would take the responsibility to deliver it in Perla Marina.

How quaint, I thought. I took the envelopes and diligently gave them to the gate guards, who knew all the residents far better than me.

Now, I always use Encargo Pad. But for a great experience I would not hesitate to test the waters with the Sosua PO again.

Sending non-value stuff out to Europe from the Sosua Post office seems to work fine and not too slow.I have used it several times for papers etc.
Not sure if I would try to receive anything at all there,I have huge doubts that it would actually get there.
