How could you get upload speed more than 1 mbps in Santo Domingo? The ping time is very good for VPN too. Tell me please what is your connection here.

He was on a 5MB connection. Lot's of VPN services in the USA that allow you t0 tunnel in.

5 MB symmetric (5 mbps download/ 5 mbps upload) or what exactly?

I am asking because so–called 5 mbps plans from Codetel or Tricom have only 1 mbps upload speed, and Codetel's 1mpbs upload gives only ~768 kbps real upload speed, with VPN or without it. That's why I am asking about his connection here, what plan from which company it was exactly.

It was a 5MB from Codetel, that I know 100%.

Yes, I know the guy and seen the connection etc.

Thank you, Robert.

Unfortunately my connection from Codetel gives me 700~800 Kbps real upload speed, that is not so close to 1 Mbps I pay for.

Is there some possibility to get more than 1 Mbps upload speed in Santo Domingo from any company? I know about 40 mbps / 1.5 mbps and 50 mbps / 2 mbps plans from Codetel, but it's ridiculous to pay 17,395 Pesos without taxes for the Internet connection in this country. There are also some symmetric G SHDSL plans from Tricom for negocios, but the price is 38,500 pesos without taxes for 3 mbps download/ 3 mbps upload.

I know that 1 mbps (or real 800 Kbps) upload speed is enough for most users, but sometimes if I want to upload my videos to youtube, my pics to Flickr and videochat with somebody on Skype at the same time, I see that it's VERY slow for such use. I don't need 50 Mbps download with only 2 Mbps upload, I prefer 10 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload for reasonable price.

Hernandez, dream on for a while, thats about the best advice I can give you.

You are not getting 3MB up unless you pay, simple as that.

The point is that IF I want to pay a lot of money monthly for 3 MB upload speed, there are NO plans with this speed except plans from Tricom for negocios, and those Tricom plans are not ADSL or Cable, that's G SHDSL and expensive because that's symmetric technology. And I am not sure that they can install it into regular apartment, that's for negocios.

That's why I was asking if somebody knows how to get upload speed more than 1 mbps here, please describe it.

You can get multiple DSL lines and use the right router to aggregate the bandwidth.
The ideal solution is to bond the lines, but this requires support from the ISP, which I'm sure you will not get here.

Maybe something like this would work or at least aggregate the bandwidth?
Mushroom Networks, Inc.

You should chat with the small call centers, they work around this issue somehow.
Or move closer to the local NOC as distance is a big factor with DSL performance.

I live in my own apartment, and the distance from the local NOC was not the main factor when I bought it. I love to upload to youtube and flickr, but that's not the most important thing in my life.

Yes, I know about dual WAN routers. But this solution is not so good, just imagine that you login to your internet banking account (or email) and packets come from two IP addresses at the same time. Probably you will have a problem to login to some sites with this setup.

Sounds like a good advice, thank you.

Bob's is not typical and he's not paying for 5MB's, it's a mess up at Codetel and long may it remain :)

You are going to pay RD$7,360 (US$200) incl taxes etc a month for a 5MB connection.

Prices are at the link below.
Add 28% tax to those prices and RD$400 to rent a basic phone line.

(I'm guessing this link has been posted 100+ times in this forum :) )

here is todays speed

I just checked my bill,I pay 1095 pesos a month plus tax.

What about WindTelecom 4G? Don't they claim "unlimited" speed for reasonable (cheap) price...

Wow, that is a pretty good bundle. Do you know if they offer this nationally or is it in Santo Domingo only? Is there a website where you can see this bundle and other "triple play" bundles from Codetel? Cheers!

I wonder if what they advertise as iptv is tryly IP TV? These big companies like to claim tech a lot and dont actually deliver. Take for example AT&T in US, they claim 4G cell speed, but it isn't even close to actual 4G.

This thread is about speed tests and costs, not IP TV, so I suggest you start a new thread on that subject.
