A Spirit Airlines plane from Fort Lauderdale was shot at while landing in Port Au Prince today. The pilots aborted and rerouted the plane to Santiago, Dominican Republic

That has been happening for quite some time. Most times it goes unreported. A Dominican pilot that constantly fly to P-A-P that I talked to several times one time said that all Dominican pilots are aware of that (particularly when flying over Cite Soleil.) That’s one of the reason when they take off from that airport they do it slightly more inclined upwards so the airplane rise much quicker than when departing from a normal airport. That was said either last year or the year before.

If Dominican pilots are made aware of this, wouldn’t it be the same with the other pilots that land/depart from P-A-P.

Looks like no US Airline (or Haitian Sunrise airways) will be flying to/from Haiti at the moment:

My apologies for the perhaps stupid question, but why would they be flying there at all as the state of the country is what it is? Who would go there? I realize that perhaps there are wealthy Haitian nationals traveling back and forth US-Haiti, but still... Had they hit something more vital on the plane, this piece of news would have a much worse tone on it...
