Standard mattress sizes

Hi, I have tried to google this daft question but it's a mine-field. Can anyone advise what the "regular" sizes of mattresses in DR are? I have found measurements on the IKEA website, but not at all sure if they are using local sizes or European ones. I'm particularly after a 160cm wide x 200cm long mattress, so if anyone can make recommendations of a decent stockist in Santo Domingo I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Even tough DR is metric for mattresses use American standards.

Queen 60X80"
King 78X80"
A lot of good local product available everywhere, pillow top.

Most mattress like a queen is a shorter RV mattress it is 60" x 75". If you are tall the extra length of a normal queen mattress, and if using North American sheets, insist on finding the true dimension mattresses

Thank you, the constraint I have is that I have a bed that needs a mattress and a mattress that needs a bed... hahaha. Neither US sized of course, auugh. If you know of a carpenter/woodworker who could make a bed (for the mattress I already have) that would at least tick one box.

Bases for US sizing are readily available and inexpensive.
Buy the whole set.
EU standards often with split mattresses in center are uncomfortable, move on.:)

I will have to make a call indeed. The mattresses I have are not split, they are UK Super King - new, and of rather decent quality. But I will have to decide how to configure things and what will have to give.

Measure it before you buy it. We made that mistake on our first mattress purchase here. A queen size bed is 80" long in Canada and we just figured that a queen bed was a standard size. After getting rid of our existing mattress we put the new one in its place and it was 6" shorter. Normally that wouldn't be that big of a problem but it was in a 4 poster bed and looked kinda stupid. We tried to return it but the store said no way.

We replaced the short one a couple years later with a mattress that was made in the US and we measured it before it left the store.

IKEA mattresses are famously different sizes to standard sizes. So don't go by their size chart. If you buy a bed from IKEA you either have to buy their mattresses, or have one made specially.

I always get mattresses made in Villa Consuelo, quality is wonderful and they make to measure. I go to a guy called Jose Balderas, +1 (809) 697-0885, his company is JB Muebles, it's close to the Ole on Duarte. You will definitely need to speak Spanish. You can go and see the different types of mattresses in his shop and he also has a big range of beds in pine and mahogany.

Standard sizing can be confusing for US and CAN.
I was off 2" inches on the King width.
There are in-between sizes, one must measure and make sure.

SizeDimensions
Twin38" X 75"
Twin XL38" X 80"
Full54" X 74"
Queen60" X 80"
King76" X 80"
California King72" X 84"

I think the OP is in Santo Domingo. No sense in buying a mattress in Santiago when there are so many companies manufacturing and selling in Santo Domingo.

the op wants furniture...........

But with respect, why on earth would someone who lives in Santo Domingo buy their furniture in Santiago? There are so many craftsmen working in Santo Domingo you don't need to step foot out of the capital.

Better furniture; it's not like it's a long drive.

No need to leave Santo Domingo for good prices on furniture and mattresses. I've bought almost all of my furniture over the years from la Nacional.
La Nacional has a lot of very nice stuff including a lot made from Mahogany. They are also the licensed island representative and production facility for Beautyrest, Simmons, and Nacional mattresses.

Most of my stuff is over 30 years old and still looks like new.
