Starting Tomorrow , the stamp “Admitted” will NO longer be used in DR , PLUS the days of “stay” in DR will need to be written down on passport stamp 🤔 🤔 🤔

**************************************
2 points/questions :

1- Now I am a bit confused , I could have sworn that they being doing this for a few years Now … I will need to look for my passport but IF am not mistaken don’t they stamp and write with a pen on top of your stamp always ? … or am imagining things ?

2- How is this “NEW” protocol of changing the word from “admitted” to “ENTRY” plus adding the days of your stay will affect American citizens / Expats ? Anyone have any ideas , thoughts , assumptions , comments ? …. BeCause I do Not know if this change is Good or Bad for us ( expats and foreigners , tourists )

Entry vs Admitted seems just like semantics to me(?) As for writing the time of permitted stay, there are different types of visas that allow different permitted stay times. It's standard to do that in the US and other countries.

ANY Country in the World today stamps your passport with the date when you enter. Nothing new here..............

Entry may imply straightforward access. Admitted could imply access with conditions. Semantics but, in the DR, things are never as they seem and proper interpretation depends on who is stamping your passport. I don’t want to open the overstay can of worms here but small changes like this may be an indication of better things to come , like a 6 month tourist visa.

I don't want to talk about overstay either, but as I recently had to deal with some papers again, just a thought: In our case, the "tourist visa" my wife had for Schengen area to get the residency was always for 3 months. You have to be insured to get that, so I have always wondered how did the DR determine that tourists, without any hassle, are only good for 30 days and then they need to either pay more or deal with papers AND pay more.

I’m an optimist and continue to hope for the day I can enter and opt for a straightforward 90 day or 180 day snowbird/expat visa. Anything to make life easier in the DR would generate more snowbird/expat visits.

Exactly.

What has always baffled me has been the fact that for us, getting a visa and residency for my wife for Schengen has never been a hassle, even though that comes with benefits the DR will never provide for residents, whereas me applying for visa or residency in the DR has been, while not a hassle as such, much more work anyway. And the cost, the EU residency has been practically free of charge compared to any papers in the DR... It should be the contrary in my opinion...

Ok, so now everyone gets the same "Entrada" stamp, no big deal. As far as Migracion now writing in the number of days allowed for those entering as tourists or under other types of visas, again no big deal. I can't see how that would negatively affect anyone.

Have you made any suggestions to them on how they can do it better?

With long-stay interest being so high, and perhaps lucrative to the DR economy, you'd think that the government would develop a specific branch focused on the matter... Kind of like a marketing department for long-term DR stay promotion and servicing... And the budget could even be sourced out of funds it would generate.

Shoot... Governments are commercializing prison management... Why not expat management?

They have a branch already. It is called the overstay fee. You see it at every airport, and it does it's job.............

Europeans are legally permitted in the DR for 90 days? Never heard that before.

The system is computerized. When they swipe your passport on leaving, they can see how many days you've been here.

It’s a step up to focusing on whether maids can or can’t run around town in their maids uniform. You know, the challenges of life comes down to that.

This was an issue in certain parts of SD since many people felt uncomfortable watching a well-to-do family eating in a restaurant with the maid sttending the children in uniform or the maid accompanying the main woman on shopping trips (someone has to carry the bags.) It was common to go to supermarkets in some parts of SD and see a woman simply point what she wanted and the made getting it from the shelg, putting it in the cart and then push the cart around thr store.

Let's keep the "overstay" topic out of this thread. STI-JFK how does this change anything or effect you? I always thought the stamp said "entrada".
