Our water was going down rapidly one summer. We thought it was a structural leak, but it turned out that the underwater connection for the robot had simply loosened. One pool company was poised to dig up the stone around the pool, but another made the adjustment for free. My point is check the cheap, simple fix first. I'm usually on the opposite side of a story like this.
