Taino Bay officially open

Today is the inauguration of the new cruise ship port, Taino Bay in Puerto Plata. The first ship to dock in Taino Bay is the MSC Seashore with a max. capacity of 5877 passengers. This is fantastic news for Puerto Plata and the north coast with two great cruise ship facilities, Taino Bay and Amber Cove. As an ex crew member/officer of cruise ships having worked onboard cruise ships for 5 years for me this is very exciting news and each time I see a cruise ship great memories come flooding back. Fortunately I have friends that are captains on numerous ships and a few of them have already come to Amber Cove so I got to spend time on a couple of different ships for the day with my family and it always surprises me how many people that I used to work with back in the 90's that still work on the ships that I have bumped into at Amber Cove. Richard Branson's newest cruise ship, The Scarlett Lady (Virgin Cruise Lines) will be coming soon to Amber Cove and one of my old friends is the captain and I will be visiting the ship soon, can't wait for that! Awesome news for the north coast, more tourists means more tourist dollars for the NC!

Remember that Amber Cove was funded by Carnival Corporation and they have almost 90 cruise ships combined. Carnival has 22 ships, Princess has 16 ships, Holland America has 10 ships, Seabourn has 5 ships, Cunard has 3 ships, Aida has 14 ships, Costa has 10 ships, P&O has 5 ships and P&O Australia has 3 ships....none of these ships will dock in Taino Bay, the ones that are owned by Carnival will go to Amber Cove.

We passed by near the port today.... A massive traffic mess... it looks very nice from the distance though... AMET officers in every corner of the city...

Yes wow I didn’t know THIS port was THE Taino bay; same pier the cargo container ships unload at, industrial (ugly) area of city for a few blocks till malecon, been busloads of tourists in town spending yankee dollars last few weeks, many east euros per accents, attire & cigs (rusos?)

Though I been noticing lots of improvements happening last few months but wall always blocked view, but this photo shows new palapa huts and a pool now? “A” for effort. Lipstick on pig works sometimes.

I like the OP's foto of people taking pics of the ship (2nd foto ). Really puts it in perspective just how big this ship is.

The Scarlet Lady will be the second ship to dock at Taino Bay next tuesday, a new cruise ship by Virgin.



Also Royal Caribbean´s big ships (their Oasis Class), will be coming to Taino Bay on 2022, which i´m sure will look MASSIVE in the bay, la puntilla will become a great sightseeing point.

Sorry thought the Amber Cove schedule was asked for. This is all the news I was able to find on schedule cruises for Taino Bay.

Seatrade Cruise News Dec 22nd 2021

160 calls booked through April 2022​

The new destination will be off to a roaring start with 24 calls planned this month (Dec 2021)and about 160 booked through April 2022. Besides MSC Cruises, other lines sending ships include Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Virgin Voyages.

For schedule cruises into Taino Bay , I would suggest searching each cruise line schedules on their websites. .
