IMHO the bus is the only economical way to go. Yes they have bathrooms! I have traveled from Sosua to SD-SD to Bavaro/ Punta Cana. Piece of cake and very inexpensive. But be advised to take your woollies!! Mitts, toque and big sweater. The AC is unreal on these buses.
Of course you can take and drink your booze anywhere during the day, even on the bus, just not after midnight (except maybe at home)
