Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful declared the Dominican Republic is the safest country in the Caribbean and ranks among the top ten safest nations in Latin America according to citizen security indicators, when speaking on occasion of the formal start of a new Police patrol model.

Raful made the remarks emphasizing the nation’s commitment to maintaining its low crime rates through “humility, vocation, and unwavering dedication,” alongside robust training for new officers.

“Citizen security indicators consistently place the Dominican Republic as the safest country in the Caribbean and among the top ten safest in Latin America. We are committed to continuing this positive trajectory, focusing especially on the training and oversight of all personnel involved in public safety,” stated Minister Raful.

As part of the new patrol strategy, the National Police will...

People love to say the Dominican Republic is the safest country in the Caribbean — but let’s be honest, that’s only half the story. Yeah, you might not get shot walking down the street, but try driving here. It’s chaos. No one respects the rules, people cut you off, and sitting at a red light feels like waiting to get jacked. Your eyes are always on a swivel.

Add to that the real estate scams — people trying to sell property they don’t even own, deals that fall apart, and construction projects that drag on forever or never finish. Corruption and delays are the norm. It’s like everyone’s just waiting for the volcano to blow — and it will.

I’ll give credit where it’s due: when someone gets murdered, they usually find the killer fast. But that’s because the rats will sell anyone out for a couple pesos.

What does Real Estate scams have to do with Safety in any Country. Happens all over the World. And as for drivers cutting you off I guess you never drove in NYC. And as far as worried at a red light in any US city they call it Carjacking. Never heard of it here..............

I am sure a lot of posters on this board remember Robert who basically was responsible for running the forum and the success it had and a place to get solid information on the DR.
As he would always say to the few posters that were always miserable in the Dominican Republic:

"The Planes here go BOTH ways..............

No doubt the "who did it" stick gets results but not always.

The P.N know who the bad guys are and (traditionally) their crimes have always been tolerated until they seriously injure or kill one of their victims. Once a serious crime has been committed, El Comadante announces to the media the perp(s) has 48 hours to turn himself in.

Failure to do so almost always results in his untimely death. Usually riddled with bullets photographed next to that old rusty revolver. Anyone who's been living here for more than a few years knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Although I've only been to a handful of islands in the Caribbean, I agree with the article above. The Dominican Republic is certainly safer than Puerto Rico or Jamaica.

My biggest safety concern living here in DR are the deportee scumbags from the Tri-State area who haven't learned their lesson yet.
(a lot of ly adverbs, i know)

The DR is the best country in the whole world...that's why they all want to leave....
They always think the "grass is greener somewhere else". Dominicans wanting to leave is not so much about safety, it is more financial. That said, how many Dominicans move away and then can't wait to come back, I know many like that.

Crime is a threat throughout the Dominican Republic, and tourists are advised to exercise a high degree of caution due to the threat of violent crime. The crime rate in the Dominican Republic is high, and incidents range from petty crime such as opportunistic bag-snatching and pickpocketing to violent crime and carjacking. Criminals target cars for armed robberies on the roads, especially after nightfall, and there have been incidents of foreigners being mugged at knifepoint or gunpoint during the daytime while walking in residential districts.

I too never heard of carjacking here, so those sites must be wrong.

There have been quite a few, only reported in the local news which is why you've never heard of any.

I met a few Black girls with green eyes in St. Kitts. I wouldn't mind going back.

Of course there is no crime in Aruba. There is nowhere to run and hide and only 110k people, compare that to here 11 million plus and many homeless and illegals.

I don't expect you will find the DR to be #1 on the most safe Caribbean spot list on any list except for the non-existent one in the OP.
On the lists I posted, the DR is not even on those lists at all.
