Generally speaking, about the only things cheaper in the DR are the 3 B's:
booze, broads, and 'bacco......

Food....nope...I was usually paying close to 500 pesos for a decent meal ...I can go to a buffet in the States and eat my fill for $10 or less....
....electricity.....nope...I hear you at least as twice as much as it costs in the States.....
Apartments....nope....about the same cost as the States....gasoline....nope...higher in DR...
...taxes are lower in the DR...but look at the government services provided....lacking to be sure....
....for someone who wants to retire to the DR, I say you can live cheaply in the DR, that is to say if you want to live in the barrio and live like a lower-class Dominican....
