I've read somewhere this time around PLD won't have a candidate, so Willie it will be. And many believe he won last time too, but sold it to PLD. I remember he was saying they stole it from him and his supports were out on the streets, then Willie went to SD and when he came back he told his people to relax, and bought a new Lexus SUV. The word was he got 30 million pesos.

They did not exactly steal it from him. There was a law that said that there had to be representation of women in government - a certain percentage in each district. Thus, a man could win, but if there were no woman in government there, then the position would be given to the woman. This also happened in our district with the diputada. She was one who voted to change the law to say the representation of woman will not be decided district by district, but countrywide. As a result, she lost in the primaries.

Thus, by law, Willie could not win because Lliana was the only woman running.

To say it was stolen is using the same reasoning as was used regarding the last election in the US where Hillary won the popular vote but Trump won the electoral college. Thus, the Clinton camp thought that the vote was stolen from them.

.....not about the future of Sosua, but just a clarification.....

Chinese investment would be nice. Nothing mentioned of the additional US dollars currently rumored to be coming soon. Time will tell.

Any whore mongers still think "things will be back to normal" in a week? The interview brought forth the image problems of Sosua, but of course people will insist this is about money and not image. It is actually both.

The interview addressed some of the issues like image, but left out a lot of questions about changes to be made on the beach, new hotels, etc.

Maybe its time to buy some of those 25 and 30 thousand dollar condos that are for sale. There is a massive supply. Its really not that speculative since the transformation of Sosua is pretty much a done deal. Slap on a coat of paint and flip it. Who is in?

With all due respect, a couple of points . . .

Regarding the Mayoral election in Sosua.

Ilana WAS NOT the only woman running for mayor in Sosua. Melania Guzman was the candidate for the PRM and did quite well in the election considering it was her first attempt and with little financial support. She received 4,921 votes for 20.43% of the total.

Ilana won with the MAJORITY of votes 10,119 (42.00%), Willy 8,931 (37.07%).

Willy and his "supporters" certainly made a lot of commotion about "recounts" and "fraud", as expected, but the actual numbers showed Ilana in the majority from the very first bulletin to the final declaration.

The "law" you are probably referring to is Ley de Partidos (33-18) & Ley de Regimen Electoral (15-19) that address certain percentages of total CANDIDATES, within each political party, relating to gender, with minimums needed to be reached and maximums not to be exceed (40% and 60% respectively). It does not affect the results of a general election in the way you represent in your original post. Your statement ". . . a man could win, but if there were no woman in government there, then the position would be given to the woman" is just not true. Thus, your extrapolations and the analogy do not apply.

Just for clarification :)

NY-DR Commuter, while the vote count numbers could be discussed, I also think what Lindsey said about Illana winning because she was a female is not so, if that was the law then why would Willie even run in the first place if he had no chance of being elected, and why would they even recount the votes, if that was the case Illana would've simply said "I'm the only female left so by default I'm the winner, case closed and good night."

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. It was explained to me (by a local politician) in error. I stand corrected. And now that I think about it......it WAS explained regarding a primary, not a general election. Sorry for making a mistake in my comment.
