anybody who knows anything about African Americans understands that this is how they roll. a fabulous villa, 5 guys, and 8 chicas lazing poolside and chasing Chiroc with 911..

Lol, Ok , I certainly can't speak for anyone else but I assure you the the African Americans I know or for that matter Dominicans, Germans and gringos are not "lazing poolside" in a rental, partaking in Chiroc or 911.( What ever that is), talk about stereotyping.

you just apparently only see African Americans from a distance. to you, and many guys here, they are abstractions. i actually know them, and i know how they roll. i have been to many of the villas they rent. i have been at some of them when the Toyota Sienna rolls up with a dozen chicas.

as i said, if you actually knew African Americans you would know what Ciroc is. you would know where P Diddy fits in..

stereotyping? you mean like saying a group of guys are loud and uncouth, and have deprived Sosua of its refined and idyllic qualities?

Tourists and their money are fickle. As we have seen, interest in DR vacations has waned substantially on the north coast in favor of Punta Cana. That interest too will change at some point in the future for another trending location. It is folly for a country to depend exclusively for too long on tourism as the main source of revenue.

I'm not sure what else the DR can develop in the way of industrial diversity to prepare for the day when foreign tourists can no longer be relied on as the primary mean to fund the economy. All levels of Govt. need to be looking 10 - 20 years down the road and putting in place today the means to fund tomorrow. If not, the north coast could well be a harbinger of the way things will be for the entire country.

It is my general impression that leaders here are not forward thinking people and thus are not very adept at recognizing and preparing for inevitable change.

It is my general impression that very few, if any, countries have leaders that thinks much more forward than the next election, normally four years. I will give you that, here in the DR it seems that only election year matters regarding providing service to the community.

We get the politicians we vote in?

Today the politicians pave the sidewalks in Sosua in hope of gaining votes in the forthcoming elections, making roads better etc. Next year little happens but some votes are bought. Blame the ignorant voters, human greed and corrupt politicians exists everywhere, less where the voters are well educated and informed.

The big difference here in DR is the general lack of education

to say that the difference in the DR is education is very reductionist. there are several other cultural components which account for the way things transpire here.

a common observation made by foreigners here is that if you offer a Dominican a choice of 50 dollars today, or 5 dollars per day for the rest of his life, he will grab the 50. most people here live in a world of uncertainty and financial anxiety, and have a survivor mentality. their friendships are tenuous, because their human relationships are transactional, geared to produce something tangible, like money or the access thereto. selling a vote for 500 pesos is simply a means to acquiring a few pounds of salami.

people are poor all over the world, and have educational deficits, but i do not think i have ever heard of people in the inner cities of the US selling their vote

you might know "how THEY roll" and be able to reference Ciroc and P Diddy with your friends however my friends and colleagues are not aspiring rappers and don't over indulge in alcohol. They are educated and represent the company and customers in a dignified manner, especially outside the country. "I know how they roll" oh to be so eloquent lmao

What a horrible stereotype. I know many (not just one) African American males, and they do not spend their time drinking and cavorting with harlots. The men I happen to know are professionals, who know how to manage not just their assets, but their lives in a proper manner as well. Very sad that this is the only visual persons choose to project across a body of people. Very sad.

This is obviously a lower class of person than I am accustomed to. The African American men I know, OWN their condos and villas, and if anything, host gatherings amongst friends, family and business associates.
Not a group of five having to rent a villa for a weekend together on pooled money.

Sure they sell votes in the inner city in the US, just like selling a vote for RD$500 in the DR.

In the states there is a thing called "walking around money" used on election day to...buy votes. This is a long-established common practice.

It is getting harder in the DR to buy votes unless the guy checking photo ID/cedulas is also in on the scam.

Lemme aks you this, so a group of 20 sumting young urban perfessionals that all have $190K / year jobs at Kirkland Ellis, GS, and PWC are lower class than a schmuck that owns a condo with no liquidity, and will never sell it? Seems to me these cats are smarter and have more going on without an albatross.

It depends if you are speaking of properties within Sosua, or Casa de Campo. Being this is a thread line regarding Sosua. I then would have to answer yes to your question.

Balaguer was the last forward thinking leader the DR had.

Regardless of the life style decisions made by whore mongers, I suspect that are not the future of Sosua.

i also know many African Americans...

what stereotype are we talking about? we are discussing one particular cohort...the guys who come to Sosua.

surely , the African Americans who take pilgrimages to Mecca do not rent villas and stock them with high quality liquor and chicas while they are there. the ones who go to see the pyramids probably do not. i am discussing the guys who come for the girls.

I know some people don't expect change, that much is obvious. Time will tell.

by the way, Caonabo, since you seem to have this rather large group of African American friends, maybe you can pick their brains for some sociological insights into normal traits in their society. African Americans generally travel together as a group of buddies when they vacation away from home. when they plan a trip, they usually discuss it with their peers, and other guys might want to join the posse. that is why you generally see them travelling around in groups in places like Sosua.

now what would be the point of 5 guys travelling together as a group, and each guy renting a six bedroom villa?

does anybody go to those lengths to prove how high class they are? is that how your friends would do it, Caonabo?
