The wonderful thing about DR1 is all the great all - knowing posters and opinions of this who have never st foot in Sosua and have no clue what we are talking about

Sosua and Boca Chica were and are the main targets. It is not about cleaning up all prostitution, just the the type of it that are extant in Boca Chica and Sosua. Prostitution itself is not going away.

Just came back from a four day stay in Boca Chica,,
Was great. Just like Sosua before..
Didn't want to come back to dead Sosua.....

First time on the island in march, 2 weeks. 3 Days Santiago, 4 days Puerto plata, double booked one Saturday night in sosua to see what the hype is about, leaving sunday am for the capital for 7 days. What is the differences between boca chica and sosua. On the forums and net past forum post made it seem like it was basically the same vibe, if not I may go from puerta plata sunday morning str8 to boca chica for 3 days and spend 4 days in the capital and fly out.

New entertainment center in the making
At the end of the main street Pedro Clisante, right next to the now closed High Caribbean disco, a lot of work is being done on the construction of an entertainment center. The complex is completely walled so that the activities that will take place inside the walls are hidden from the street side.

According to the workmen we spoke with, there will be bars, small restaurants for a quick snack and a disco. There will also be constructed a swimming pool. It is to be expected that the High Caribbean disco will be opened again too. The workmen think that the new center can be festively opened in December. Whether they will achieve that is questionable because a lot of work still needs to be done. The intention is that after the opening of this new center the bars and discos in the beginning of the Pedro Clisante will close and that the businesses have to move to this new center. It is not yet officially known which bars and discos will have to move.

They add immeasurably to the entertainment factor.
Everybody is good for something.

Sosua News quoting anonymous construction guys is a bit shaky.
Are genuine sources not willing to go on the record?
Where is the mayor for starters?

High Caribbean made a good effort , was well financed, and failed.
What is different now?

Not clear what you mean by the "type of it"?
I am guessing it is the visibility?
Sosua had houses of ill repute with Passions and they did not like that either and shut it down.

I must be different than some.
The girls do not bother me one bit.
Seems like they are already mostly contained to one area.

The city does not have any idea what it wants other than to get rid of sex workers for moral reasons.
It cannot do that and it drives them nuts.
Instead it comes up with all these ideas about moving the girls and the business's to a red light district.

I just cannot see out of sight out of mind as a workable plan.

Dominicans love their walls. A little shortsighted on the part of the town of Sosua if this is all that is being set aside. Rather than one parcel of land, I would have designated a new neighborhood sized chunk. If there is one place in Sosua that would be primed for investment and phenomenal growth, it is this "red light district".

Will kinda suck to live next to that area if you are anything resembling a family unit but change everywhere is inevitable. As far as I am concerned, a step in the right direction as it addresses (could have) both camps - the main business district being tamer and party central being somewhere else. Now we will have to watch for the boundary creep that will surely follow as Sodom annexes Gomorrah.

Saw on Facebook there was a meeting or a demonstration in Cabarete over 9 days without water.
I am not a FB person and was looking over a shoulder so I do not know how new it is.
Nine days no water!!!
You Cab people paying your water bills on time for no water?
Time to block the highway and burn some tires.

They should just start over up north ....... only good thing is kite beach..... sosua should be Demo............nice peice of land for a land dump

I think what you graciously call the "main business district" will be a ghost town.
We will see when and if it happens.
I am reluctant to take such a big gamble with so many peoples lives and the economy of the city.
I hope it works.

Do we have anyone in line to blame if the the whole thing collapses in failure??
Always good to have a scapegoat handy.

This is OT, but anyway. Do not spread fake news.

I guess you saw a video from Perla Marina.

Where I live in Cabarete there has always been water in the tube this year, every day. (ProCab). Maybe a different situation in other parts like CalleJon, but they do not pay for water either.

not arguing, honestly.
But are you going to Compensate the people who spent north of $500,000 USD for a Condo with an ocean view ?
when you " demo" the whole place as you say ?
( you meaning generally speaking , as in who ?)

There's been no water shortage in Cabarete. At times the water pressure gets very low in the Callejon, and they do go w/o water for a day or two(usually the tinacas are enough to get through that), but I haven't heard of any major problem lately(?).

If they think moving a few hooker bars down the street is going to turn Sosua into a family destination they are in for a shocking realization.
