Just passed by the construction and High Caribbean.
Seems there is work going on inside HC music and lights working so maybe it will re-open.
Any one know any more?

The walled city is rising also but looks pretty weird.
I reckon anyone prepared to put money into Sosua at the moment must have:-

1 Inside information
2 Amazing optimism and crystal ball.
3 A surplus of somebody else's money
4 A cast-iron guarantee signed in blood by the whole present and future administration that they won't immediately close them down
5 Crazy notions.

Or any combination of the above.

First time on the island in march, 2 weeks. 3 Days Santiago, 4 days Puerto plata, double booked one Saturday night in sosua to see what the hype is about, leaving sunday am for the capital for 7 days. What is the differences between boca chica and sosua. On the forums and net past forum post made it seem like it was basically the same vibe, if not I may go from puerta plata sunday morning str8 to boca chica for 3 days and spend 4 days in the capital and fly out.
Same vibe, but in Boca Chica more dangerous. You can easily make a day/night visit, when in SD.

I would suggest residence of the area allocated for new so called "Red Light District" start an injunction in courts against city officials, how dare they just pick a residential spot and want to make it a "Red Light District", all the noise, crowd and nuisance.... I am sure there are a few laws against them ruining that neighborhood at will.

Red Light Districts are made over years and decades organically naturally (mainly downtown where no one lives), you can't pick a residential area and decide to make it so. The only other example I have seen was in a German town, but then they moved it to a totally isolated empty area quite a bit out of town...!

They should put a wall all around Sosua proper and call it a red light district, the chicas have been woven into the fabric of that town for decades. Walk around day or night and you hear it from stores, apartments and balconies Psssst Hola Papi or my favorite, when a moto guy pulls up and says chica? blu pill ? weed?

I suspect this is another example of an idea that wasn't completely thought through. That idea being to get the hardcore night life away from centre court downtown. The east end of PC is probably the easiest choice but as you and I point out, the area is full of family homes. The CESTUR station already being present may have had an influence on the decision.

Lots of other spaces that could have been chosen a bit further east off Hwy 5. Those places would require shuttle service from the hotels downtown and a significant parking lot. Yep, this will bring more late night noise to an area that hasn't had to deal with this level before. Lots of traffic (people, cars & conchos) and the associated issues with drunk people staggering about in the wee hours of the morning peeing everywhere and basically being loud, boisterous and sometimes physically over exuberant with each other.

We'll have to see if the trade actually moves to that end of PC and what upset it brings.

Big,

The all too often heard refrain from the curb, "Change?" from the men or "Message?" from the ladies.

Not sure we can make a comparison with a first world country to the DR as regards zoning.
I made a similar point to yours a while back.
Some guy drove up in a cartoon car and tried to run me over with a rant on the strict zoning laws in the DR

Made me laugh.
"A friend" built a 3/2 concrete house with no permits, no inspections and did it on government owned land.
To cap it off the electricity was weak so "my friend" ran a line in from the closest power line and put up his own utility pole.

If the biz owners and the affected neighborhood property owners get together and hire a connected crook lawyer I would wager the city would give up and go away.

Imagine you have a nice home down there and the city says, we have a bunch of people who we do not like so we are moving them all down here and and opening a bar-house of ill repute next door.
You like loud music and drunks?
Is there a Dominican version of a class action law suit.
Does the city plan on buying up all the homes affected?
Does the city plan at all?
Only if they have to.

The whole thing is a gamble that will affect a lot of lives and its all being done on a big "maybe it will work"
Big problem I see is that there is no going back if it is a fail.

Or does our fair city have a secret plan to "un move" everyone if it is a fail?

Big,

The all too often heard refrain from the curb, "Change?" from the men or "Message?" from the ladies.

To which the response is "do you take Visa" ?

A smart bum did get me with that.
Sitting/laying outside a grocery and his reply was no but could you buy me some water?
Could not turn that one down.

The world has more than enough walls.
Not every problem is solved with walls despite the belief of 35% of Americans in red hats.

Maybe you look like a rube tourist.
Ditch the black socks, sandals, and short pants.

A smile and a simple "I am not a tourist" works just fine.

What is wrong with the status quo?
The idea of needing big changes is a political sales job.
Things are fine other than we could use more visitors.
The city could make the town more attractive.

Fix and widen the sidewalks, control the speeding motos, beautify the beach and cover up the beach rocks is a start.
How about some stop signs in town, maybe some painted crosswalks.
Be cheap and make it nicer for everyone.
The kind of things politicians are supposed to do instead of catering to a few peoples sense of morality.
Thing anyone would vote for a gringo for mayor?

You guys are on the right track , and you may not even realize it ..
The Powers that be do NOT WANT IT TO WORK....they want the confrontation...they want the Bars to fall for this Joke, Move to the New Area... Shut down their original PC Downtown bars which have been in operation there for decades , and move to this new "sucker" area....where they can then DISMANTLE them completely and Legally .. using the Citizens who own Condos there as Pawns in their Final Battle ....
just my .02 but anyone who falls for this , is probably in for a rude awakening ..
like Andrew Dice Clay used to say " Look what I DID to you , again"

It's probably not that good for tourism when the videos of police brutality and abuse of power from here go viral.Tasering young girls and throwing (literally) people into pick ups is not quite the image that encourages visitors, including those not looking for cheap thrills.

The DR has it all!

This idea is just another idea that wont work. Most can remember when the bars were told to install windows and enclose their bars so as to not be visible to passerby's. As has been said, if I had a nickel for every family that came to Sosua I would have a dollar.

I've heard the Bourbon Street won't have to move because it's a restaurant. Haven't been to Sosua at night in a long time, but I've been told it's packed with chicas and mongers in the evening.

If other places are able to duplicate what they're doing, I don't see much changing. That section of PC will still be a popular place to gather at night. Maybe later on, like after midnight, they might all drift down to the bars and clubs at the east end of PC(?).

I agree with all your suggestions except this one. It would be a complete waste of time and money.

Right? So many people on DR1 using logic and reasoning. They haven't been here long enough yet.
