Looks like someone needs a safe space.

its not really surprising now. Pilots on Air Canada no longer say ladies and gentle, they say "everybody" its gender neutral more inclusive to the ...whoever

Never underestimate the will and financial power of the Chinese. If there is value, financial, political, or otherwise for them to invest in the DR they will with no hesitation. The Hong Kong Chinese set their sites on Vancouver years ago, flew in to buy up massive amounts of real estate prior to the British turning Hong Kong over to China, and then flew back to Hong Kong to continue making their fortunes. House prices in Vancouver are beyond reach for middle class Canadians now. Obviously something of this magnitude would never happen in Sosua or could it?

Wealthy Chinese target First World countries and the more expensive cities within those countries to buy real estate. Poorer Chinese will go anywhere to start a business and try to make it. There are some in Jamaica. Where the Chinese government goes with large engineering projects Chinese employees will go there to try to make enough money to get a wife from the mainland. If unsuccessful with a mainland wife they will marry locals, have kids, especially to get citizenship....they do this in some African countries.

Interesting thing is they left their kids in Canada to attend school and obtain Canadian citizenship. A spinoff of that was a rise in the traffic crime rate in Vancouver, the result of rich Asian kids with high powered high end sport cars without parental supervision. Migration can bring problems. BC has instituted a real estate tax levy for absentee home owners. Too little too late. Still one of the most expensive places in Canada to buy real estate. A real estate boom of that magnitude on the DR North Coast would be a real estate agent’s fantasy.

I see. And for the first year Santa is bringing my brand new Mercedes ready for shipment to Santa Domingo. Ho, ho ho.

...''Oh Lord wont you buy me a Mercedes Benz"..(Janis Joplin) And ship it to Sosua, my friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends...

“Unusually crowded”??? Meaning that it usually is not crowded on a Saturday night?

Lol, that reminded me of when Yogi Berra said “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded”.

Anyone else go to the Jazz Festival on Plaza Alicia Friday night? I counted about 400 chairs under the canopy (20 rows of 20 chairs), and they all appeared occupied. Good music, good crowd, a good evening.

The Chinese have been in Jamaica since the mid 1800's. Most Chinese in Jamaica are actually Jamaican born.

In Panama the colmados are known as los Chinos because the vast majority are chinese owned. Many of said Chinese persons had less Spanish than I did when there! A huge monument on the other side of the Canal from Panama City Declares 150 years of China in Panama!

It was a three day weekend. Holiday today, Monday, switched from Wednesday.

The "it was busy last night talking point" is a bit like discussing the weather when others are referring to the climate "change"....

Any glimmer of hope to latch onto.....

More importantly, the 400 people at the Jazz Festival. I didn't see that show, but probably like previous ones a mixture of local Doms and expats. And no crocs or spandex in sight (ok, maybe a couple). As I've said, they are going to reclaim Pedro Clisante in quick fashion.

I went to the "Jazz" festival once here. I don't recall seeing any Jazz and the wife hated the music.

Did the bar in question actually relocate to Ahnvee yet?

the more I hear about the reclamation of Sosua the more I chuckle when I go out and see the hoards of chicas. Didn't go to the Jazz Festival but I bet dollars to donuts there was a dozen working ladies there.

Since everyone around here has been behaving like animals the last 72 hours
between the music and copious amounts of alcohol, I decided to have a little fun
by asking people in the street who are celebrating "Constitution Day" to name
one clause in the Dominican Constitution....
Can ya guess how many people were able to do so?
