Interesting.

Where are you now? Santiago?

Yes, I am in Santiago.. I love it here.
My neighborhood is what makes me
feel the way I feel about living here.

Sosua has a world of potential. It just
(like so many other things in this country)
needs better planning and management.

I don't know about the rest of you but
when I travel two hours north of where
I live to relax and enjoy myself, I don't care
for the nonsense.

I'm curious: how many here will refrain from visiting Sosua, or will move away from Sosua because of this "urban renewal" project?

I won't. Nothing has changed other than the closure of the portion of Sosua I have not been to in years....other than Britannia. In many ways it will be a better place for me...less foreigners.

Flip Flop Vape Shop just opened. Next to Banco Popular. Looks like a great selection. Very clean new store with plenty of eliquid and mod selection.

THC bootleg vapes are what is killing people so dont start with the vaping is deadly BS here.

Millions vape, 12 have died from bootleg THC vape...exactly the same scare scenario as deaths in the DR...millions come and 9 die every year.

So looks to me at least in this little section of Sosua that vaping is the future and the future is now.

Sounds like an ad to me.

When I checked in maybe 16 years ago....they handed me a book filled with girls pictures....said I could pick. The place was not really my cup of tea.

Much more recently than that, their website outlined the costs for various ancillary services and some where even built in to a package price. Seems the site has been sanitized since. Getting back to the idea that Blackbeard's now claims itself to be the very definition of an adult resort and nothing more - in that persons under 18 are not welcome as guests. However, at that resort, a single traveler can still max out the occupancy in their room quite easily if they so desire.

Clearly this establishment adapted to the changing environment and has found a way to thus far avoid the ire of the officials. I'm not saying that there are not those who would like to see it shut down, just that they haven't done so yet. Staying off the radar by not advertising the explicit business model on the internet maybe has resulted in some degree of cover. That and the hotel not directly handling any transactions or customer interactions on behalf of the onsite independent contractors.

If this new zone in Sosua is a real attempt to remove the adult activities from the downtown business core, if all of the establishments that wish to cater to this market can play by the rules, if ..., if..., if ... then this move could be a win for everyone, except perhaps the families that live in the immediate vicinity. Certainly an unfettered business environment could be a boon for investment and the economy if govt will allow that to happen. The wait and see period will probably last about a year while those with money to burn will observe the climate. After that, if all appears well and the govt maintains a fair but for the most part hands off regulatory policy, we could see a Dominican gold rush. I'm not sure that's what everyone wants though. Dulce Secreto may be sitting pretty already.

I watched video earlier today which showed the construction taking place
directly across the street from the new Cestur Office.. It will be interesting
to see whether or not the chicas are willing to ply their trade at this location,
especially the Haitianas.

The ladies will go where the money is. That's why they are in town. If western Pedro Clisante is nothing but pica pollo joints and tacky trinket stores, there is not much point in them strutting their stuff on those sidewalks. Both customer and service provider will move but there needs to be a functioning venue for them to move to first.

And without a sizeable place to relocate to in Sosua, there will be a scattering of the flocks.

And probably a few airline tickets are being canceled. I think the upper PC hooker biz will end up as a much smaller attraction.

Now this is done, it must be a ghost town in the center of town. Has anyone been through the area at night? It must be eerie.
