An undocumented Haitian identified only as Gago Fabela is accused of stealing US$6,000 from his employer’s residence in the municipal district of Arroyo Salado Payita, in Maria Trinidad Sanchez province on the northeastern coast.

According to the Police report, the victim, Ramón González, reported the robbery to a local patrol. González stated that the money was kept in his closet and that the worker took advantage of a moment of inattention to steal it.

As reported, the Police immediately launched an operation, apprehending the suspect in the Los Solares neighborhood. Upon his arrest, Fabela was found in possession of US$5,900 and RD$4,650.

The detained man was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (Dicrim) in Payita and will later be taken to the police station in the municipality of Cabrera, under the supervision of...

Exactly !!! I did catch several Employees stealing from me and all of them where as Dominican as it gets. When i came to this Country 20 years ago, i was received by a Guy who was already here for more than 30 years. He told me two things:
1.) If you look for true Love, get a Dog
2.) If you don't want that that somebody steals from you, don't give them the opportunity to do so.

Yes 100% True. And the worst of all is that is not only "Greed" and/or criminal Energy.
It's more "ENVIDIA" than anything else.
I was warned about this several times by my wife but always downplayed it.
"ENVIDIA" plays a big role in Dominican Society. The more you have and the more you show it, the more they hate you
and even your "Best Friends" will turn against you.

Except this is a case of an illegal immigrant from Haiti stealing from the hand that fed him. I don’t see why some people are bothered by that. When stories about Dominicans stealing from their employers is posted, none of them react with “the title is misleading, it should “general” rather than the Dominican.

It would be nice if people put an end to the double standards.

On the other hand, the guy that was robbed was from his very own Haitian employee. Probably was taking advantage since an illegal immigrant from Haiti doesn’t cost him as much as a Dominican worker, though with this last theft attempt the Haitian workers would had cost him more than he thought. It could be said the money the Haitian stole from him is part of the difference of what a Dominican worker would has cost him. Getting mad because a worker is taking more of what should go to workers?

I have to strongly disagree with this blanket statement about Dominican society. While envy "envidia" can exist anywhere in the world, just like greed or jealousy, it's a mistake to generalize an entire nation's culture based on isolated experiences. Saying that "even your best friends will turn against you" paints a very unfair and negative picture of Dominicans as a whole, which simply isn't true.

It honestly makes me wonder about the kind of people or "friends" you're surrounding yourself with in the Dominican Republic. One’s personal circle doesn’t represent an entire society. There are countless Dominicans who are loyal, generous, and deeply supportive of their friends and community, just as there are anywhere else.

It's important to look at these experiences critically and avoid turning them into sweeping cultural judgments. Every society has its challenges, but reducing a rich, diverse culture to something as one-dimensional as envy does a disservice to the people who call it home.

Yeh this is a deflection. Employing an illegal immigrant means there are little repercussions unless it’s by immigration. You are more than likely to not know where that person even lives and that person is more likely to change locations whenever they need to.

The reality is Dominicans, and foreigners alike are complicit in hiring illegal immigrants. They should be held accountable as well and penalized or fined for doing so.

Foreigners should face deportation to their native countries along with the deportation of the illegal immigrant. I know my comments just pissed off the legions of my fellow expats who decide to do this because their pensions stretches farther.

Do you live in the DR? A bit extreme to say those who move to the DR due to cheaper costs are "knowingly participating in the destabilization of a nation" I would say there is a bit more to that, but we all have our opinions.
